Had an 87 s10 2 door blazer and a 91 single cab that were 6/8 static, all beltech. My 85 2 door s10 blazer was originally 6/8 static but the coils and shocks were replaced with bags. My 89 s10 2 door blazer is a 6/6 static drop and with the stereo system in it is 6/8. The others (88 single cab, the other 91 single cab, the other 85 2 door blazer, 86 2 door blazer)were all stock height. Yes you could say i like my 1st gen s10s and blazers. It all started with the 88 single cab.

Yes the lowering springs have a stiffer spring rate

At 19:17, you show replacing the cotter pin on the upper ball joint. Did you tighten the nut down too much? Shouldn't the cotter pin go between the castle slots on the nut? It looks like it's outside of the notches.
@HardCoreGarage3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I'm not sure why its that way. It honestly wasn't very tight. The cotter pin would stop it from backing out still.
@oldfag_adventures Жыл бұрын
you should always torque the nut down first then continue to tighten until your pin holes line up. doing it any other way will lead to excess wear and even failure. if the hole is over the top of the castle nut slots then instead of wrapping the pin parallel to the threads wrap it perpendicular to the threads with one arm of the pin being pressed down into the castle and the other wrapping over the end of the stud. failure to torque tie rods down will bare minimum give you a very annoying clunk and lots of slop in your steering

I just did something similar a few weeks back. You were seriously making me cringe sticking your fingers in the coil while raising the lower arm. Good safe method (next time) get a 2'piece of 1/2" all thread - 2 square washers and 2 nuts take the shock out and run the all thread from top to bottom with the square washers on top and bottom. If anything EVER comes loose it will not let the coil come out plus you can can compress with turning the nuts.
@HardCoreGarage3 жыл бұрын
Ive used a compressor when removing or installing full size spring. These don't scare me anymore . But better safe than sorry

How are the lowering springs compared to the drop spindles? I’m doing a tight budget build on my s10 and I was thinking of getting lowering springs with lowering shocks or should I do spindles for ride quality? Thank you
@HardCoreGarage3 жыл бұрын
I always buy spindles first. You'll maintain factory ride and specs. Id suggest getting lowered shocks too!
@HardCoreGarage3 жыл бұрын
Ive never had a truck with just springs.
@boominS103 жыл бұрын
Spindles 1st then coils. If you go coils 1st you'll probably have a raised portion of the roof due to hitting your head every time you hit a bump. Actually rides worse than 1 with hydraulics.
@ultradude99303 жыл бұрын
@@HardCoreGarage So, I was just wanting to drop my 96 S10 in the front 3". Your saying I should do the 2" spindles then a 1" coil drop vs a 3" coil drop?
@ultradude99303 жыл бұрын
@@boominS10 That doesn't make sense. Why does it matter whether springs are used first or second? The same drop springs are being used. Just askin.

Curious question - when you re-installed your outer tie rods to the new drop knuckle - did you install from bottom with the screw facing up? My 97 was like that then I wondered if I should have reversed them due to the lower knuckle point?

Looking to lower my 90 S10 Blazer coupe' 2wd and not sure how low I will go. I don't want to be in the weeds as much as you and I will be adding a L33 in the near future, how low do you recommend?
@HardCoreGarage3 жыл бұрын
I always recommend getting spindles and leafs to start with. Will retain most of the factory ride and specs. That gives you a 2/3 drop. And you can adjust from there depending on the look you're going for.
@woodzy29762 жыл бұрын
so you used drop spindles and lowered coils to get the five?
