again w/ my santana - wind was a real issue even w/ gin lines could hairy at time but it did not have a back stay.

Besides the hand tools to loosen and tighten the shroud turnbuckles, you'll need a tension gauge to set the correct tension like I describe in Product Review: Loos Tension Gauge (stingysailor.com/2016/06/25/product-review-loos-tension-gauge/).

Hello Stingy Sailor, thank you for posting these mast raising/lowering videos, I have subscribed to your channel. I am hoping to get a 24 foot sailing boat myself, but my dilemma has been, that I live in a place that is far from the sea, but has many lakes and rivers but also a lot of low bridges. Your videos offer a possible solution of dropping the mast to transit under power, to move between some of the larger lakes and raising it to sail when situated on the lakes. How long does it take you to get from dropped mast, to raised mast, boom in place and mainsail raised ready to sail?

Thanks for the videos, can you help me? Hurricane Ian broke my forestay and auto furler and the only thing holding forward tension on the mast is my halyard attached to the forestay chain plate. Have any recommendations for safely lowering the mast without a forestay in place?

Hi, Jack. Sorry to hear about your damage. If you securely tie off the tail end of the halyard to the mast so that it won't slip, you should be able to lower the mast with the same procedure shown in the video. Your halyard effectively replaces the forestay.
