Inspiring and aspirational to watch this guy foil. Never going to get to his level and that does not matter, every clip I see of Johnny foiling gets me motivated to get out on the water and try new things, helping make me the best foiler I can be. Thank you for capturing this clip and sharing it. Ripping choice one the first song too!

Robert, thanks for this video. Johnny is amazing. Could you please comment on his wide stance--much wider than any other riders I've seen. Is this style something that intermediate riders should emulate, or is this only for world champions? More leverage on the board but also harder for foot switches? Thanks!
@blueplanetsurf Жыл бұрын
Good question, I have been thinking about that as well. My take: I think Johnny’s wider stance and also relatively straight legs at high speed carried over from his kite racing experience where a wider stance seems to help control smaller/ faster foils at high speeds vs the narrower stance adopted by many downwind foilers which seems to allow more finesse at controlling somewhat bigger foils at relatively lower speeds. So the type of gear used and speeds reached will have an effect on what style would work better for you.

My friend’s mental image of Johnny Heineken was that of a middle age beer drinker with a beer belly. He was very confused when he saw that Johnny was actually a young, fit guy drinking kombucha, haha 🤙🏼

Someone should teach Johnny that it's possible to wing with the sail downwind of you so you are pulling with your arms instead of pushing. Jk, this dude is incredible.

He’s surfing, the wing is an assistant to power up but that’s all. Letting it push him and manipulating it in carves like he does is neat, but it’s led by how he wants to carve the wave - he could just taxi it while carving. Nothing negative, just noticing the flow he’s on is dictating all the action. There are those little bursts where he hauls ass in a burnout of sorts with the wing, but for me the footwork is what’s cool.
