Great work as always mate! Wish we could get the same quality materials here in Australia. Would love to see more follow up videos during or after weather events. Keep em coming!

Here's a older video file. We don't build our sump systems like this anymore but it's the exact same design with results. Watch "French Drain Before and After, Watch Drainage System in Action During Michigan Thaw" on KZbin kzbin.info/www/bejne/hXyyhHdrpMSbaLc

All I can say is I’m sitting in the middle of hurricane Ian here in Florida and i can’t be happier and more prepared with the 209 foot Baughman tile French drain I installed myself over a year ago! Learned everything here on FDM KZbin ..Two 4inch high octane French drains plus a solid gold tapped in all my four gutters plus one neighbors on one side- will post action as long as I make it out alive

can you please make a video about permits and everything thats needed. i also work in oakland county mi
@FRENCHDRAINMAN Жыл бұрын
Every city is different and it changes yearly. I would highly recommend you getting a builders license so you can pull permits. If you tie into a storm drain you most likely need a permit. You can take your builders license class online.

If you didn’t have a sod cutter, how would you redress the finished drain? Screened top soil and seed over the fabric?

50% topsoil 50% sand. We call it sandy loam. Put straw on top.

Would have liked to see this one draining. With a spring there it should run constantly but I do understand you had to do it at the driest time possible.

A natural gas pipeline goes through a stretch of our property, 50 yards wide and 150- 200 yards long. The pipes are a minimum of 4' under the ground. Areas of this property is just like that of this video, I have to put my Muck boots on and weed-whack it because it's too wet for the mower. My tractor can get through it, but it leaves deep ruts. I've been thinking of how I can use a french drain to dry this area, so I can appreciate this video. Also, I'm not through watching the video yet but I hope to see how the guys work the fabric at the intersections. 👍
@davidpritch7182 жыл бұрын
Well, you answered the fabric at intersection question. That's how I was doing it, but you always have that nagging thought "Is this right?". But like you always say. "Don't over think it."
@FRENCHDRAINMAN2 жыл бұрын
Yes don't over think the fabric. 3 inches overlapping

Three years ago, I found the French drain man and knew very little to nothing about how to install a French drain. I was doing it the old fashioned way with 3-4 inches of washed rock on the bottom then the black perf. pipe with more washed rock then just a layer of landscape fabric with 4inches of soil on top with the gutter dwnspts tied into it. Installed it in my backyard. It never worked. But after about 6 mts of Roberts videos, I dug that junk up and installed it the right way. And after about 2.5 years I started my own drainage business out of my Landscaping business. I'm in the process of transitioning into drainage full-time. I'm actually also working on having a website made for my new drainage business. My hold up is the name of the business. I've narrowed it down to two possibilities. "Foundation Drainage by Design" or "Blue Collar Foundation Drainage" 🤔 what is everyone's thoughts? Mr. Sherwood I would feel Obliged to have your input. I'm in the south btw hence the blue collar idea.
Question, so the perforated pipe, does it move thr water to the exit or does it basically let water drain throughout the length of the pipe?

Robert, I have a similar problem. To complicate the issue is I live in the country surrounded by corn fields. I have no ditch or public drainage system to tie into. Where or how do I outlet the discharge....
How far down should the French drain be in the northern states, Michigan/Ohio area? I was thinking I would need to go about 18-24”

How do you capture running surface water, like during a storm? Currently it's exposed riprap but we want turf. Can we incorporate multiple drains into a system like this?

Random question, interested in offering french drains and buried downspouts to customers with issues that ask. My question is, do you have to have special trade licensing like a plumber to offer exterior drainage solutions? I know it can vary sometimes state to state, but I’m just asking in general.
@FRENCHDRAINMAN2 жыл бұрын
I am personally a Licensed Builder and I have my business state license tied to my Builder License.
@tylerpittmon79362 жыл бұрын
@@FRENCHDRAINMAN okay, so in other words you don’t have to have an actual plumbers license? I’m a licensed landscape contractor. Just didn’t know if I needed to take on any extra certifications before I actually offer the service. I always like to do a little research before I take something on.
