The mondrich plot confused me sm because one quick search in a history book you’d learn that in the regency era gentlemen’s clubs commonly had rich patrons, owners and investors. The big no-no was having will working behind the bar…like dude just keep the business and hire some workers and hang out there if you don’t want to let it go sm. This plot does not need to draaaag. Even Simon was boxing and doing fun little things, he can keep boxing too for fun. He literally gets to be rich and jobless like everyone in the ton have fun ffs. I expected with Colin’s unexplained gains and muscular glow up maybe they’d show him training with will or bonding through fitness/boxing or something idk. I liked the bro scenes of them all hanging out at his bar, too.

@@lowkeyprose I remember in ep 4 will mentioned that “two-thirds of the lords have closed their accounts" at his club, he means that the majority of his wealthy patrons have stopped frequenting his establishment and no longer owe him money or have an ongoing tab there, I guess? If that’s true…it’s strange because they displayed the club as bustling and successful and the bridgerton boys are always hanging around and inviting other lords. To try and imply will can’t even employ a new bartender bc the income of the bar isn’t doing good just felt forced if it’s only revealed through one line of dialogue where if you blink you’ll miss it. If anything, his new found status and him holding all these balls could’ve easily connected him to new patrons and investors and the whole plot could’ve just been him revamping his club. Maybe it could’ve been him feeling guilty about being wealthy only out of chance and because of his son’s proximity to inheritance. Maybe he’s too prideful to dip into his son’s money to keep the bar. But that doesn’t really stick because they’re throwing extra balls and dressing to the nines with the money. To add, there is no way in hell, Will and Alice should have been included in society so easily, it completely undermines Sophie and Benedict’s story. Alice and Will are untitled, it is their child who has the title! Alice should be nowhere near the Queen and would never be able to host a ball that the peerage attended, let alone the Queen! It was just so implausible, it tore me out of the fantasy. I believe they are setting Nicky Mondrich up to replace Gareth St Clair, Hyacinths love interest, but don’t have enough material to give them to drag that out.

In a way the relationship between John and Francesca almost overshadowed the main couple. I believe it had to do with the contrast between them and the rest of the stories. There were so many different storylines going on in the main and side stories that whenever there was a scene with Francesca in it, the vibe became set apart and I somehow felt I could breath. There is nothing wrong with alot going on but I do believe the vibes/atmospheres should contrast for the main couple to really pop off the screen (as set apart from the rest).

Because the showrunner, Jess brownell, is a queer woman and said herself she sees herself in fran and used this season as a stepping stone for Fran’s season. Like…I’m also demisexual and wlw but I’m not gonna project my bias on a season that was anticipated for audiences that related and expected the Polin storyline. To rewrite Fran’s romance as comphet and her not actually being attracted to John kinda sours everything they were building. I hate how ensemble shows have kind of lost their flexible structure. They used the have standalone episodes for certain characters, had dual narratives, povs, blended side characters into the A-plot. Now it’s just disjointed jumping around without clear focus and pacing. It’s too busy. 12 subplots happened this season not counting the separate plots for Polin. It kind of reads as if they have no faith in Colin or pen leading the show. No one felt like a ‘main character’ this season.

@@marlena. sounds likes she had full reign and her and Shonda go way back. If there was any backlash they’ll likely interpret it as them making something ‘ahead of its time’ and are high five-ing each other. Ignoring all the naysayers and view the noise as them making something revolutionary and too good that the dumb general public just ‘don’t get it like they do.’ Their Artistic egos are showing pretty bad rn. I bet if their crew wasn’t a bunch of yes men and they did do a run with a test audience or had some peer reviewing moments in the writers room, I doubt we’d get this…result. The responsibility of a show runner is to have their finger on the pulse and know what expectations and standards they gotta hit. What to focus on, what to scrap, how to maintain mystique, but also keeping the integrity of what they’re adapting in the text. For Jess, it seems like she’s having fun writing Francesca like a self insert and is very indulgent. I expect creativity and differences with adaptions, but she’s in her own little world and everyone on her team is too scared to say it’s underwhelming riverdale-esque writing and is derailing the plot and pacing. She has the subtly of a gun and that one carpet interview where’s she’s giggling about being the one that chose the pitbull cover kind of shows me that she’s not serious at all. I get Bridgerton can be seen as camp indulgent regency smut, but I thought the older seasons tried to tell a compelling story at times. It’s like she made a satire version of the show at times. I did like the direction up to the middle of episode 6 and I was ignoring the pacing issues, but the wheels really fell off by the end of the season. Sucks because Polin was the only season I was anticipating. I literally watched the other seasons so I’d know what was happening this season 🥲 I thought in this season they’d finally have some big stakes and nuanced conversations because of the LW drama, but Jess made the most non communicative and shallow version of how that could play out. Shonda isn’t blameless either bc you can tell that was her wish fulfillment at the end with Colin’s speech about his purpose being in the light of his working and strong wife. All career girlies want to hear that little speech. Colin is like pen’s cheerleader and accessory which I’d take if they actually gave him an arc or a character dive this season besides him being the emotional third son that pretends to be hyper sexual to fit in and is envious of his breadwinning wife even though he’s a rich fat cat, too. His pockets are as fat as three earls and can publish his grocery list so… I get he had some intimidation and jealousy in the books, but I wanted this to be better than the books. I wanted them to really get into the hard talks. The show is called Bridgerton. It focuses on one Bridgerton sibling each season. So I’m shocked they kind of put Colin in a corner.

@@surette2012This! Apparently JB was pitching the Francesca storyline since season one and when she was given the reins, she made it happen. Apparently there were multiple back and forth conversations between her and Julia Quinn about the changes, because Julia had to fight to keep *SPOILER* Frannies love for John and her deep mourning for his death in the books originally. Julia Quinn ultimately gave her blessing but I feel like maybe she was mislead. JB also admitted that she isn’t great at keeping tabs on multiple storyline’s and has others doing that for her, which makes sense when we look at how disjointed the side plots felt with the rest of the season. The costuming, the styling, the dialogue, the writing, the editing, the filming, the soundtrack, everything was all just c-grade. It didn’t feel like Bridgerton, there was no attention to detail, it felt cheap. I only really liked the Featheringtons but I am a long time Portia stan. It didn't make sense to me how Eloise turned on Cressida like that so quickly. Cressida told Eloise (when Eloise wasn't going on about her own problems) about how important it was for her to find a husband this season, her father's cruelty, almost getting married off to some decrepit old man. If Eloise was a good friend she should've immediately clocked that Cressida taking the credit for Lady Whistledown was an act of desperation and reached out to her. It felt like the writers spent the whole season building this redemption arc for Cressida but then they dropped the ball at the end. This whole season was about airing out grievances and trauma, taking accountability for hurting the people around you, and mending fences; Cressida's storyline would've been a great opportunity for her to do that with Eloise, Pen, and the ton at large. I hope the writers don't leave her hanging in season 4.

For me they did a lot of telling and not showing with his character. I have to rewatch because it's subtle. Also I do think that one kiss is enough for men to just decide they want to go for it. I agree with many of your views on Season 3. Colin sucked overall, he was abusive and demanding and not at all in love with Pen. He only noticed her once he was feeling lust after their brief kiss. Do note he wouldn't "sully" Marina in Season 1 with a kiss or anything (he even says this to her), but he sacks Pen the moment he can and could have absolutely ruined her in their society's view. Then he accused her of trapping him with sex. Lust is not love, and I see no love in Colin for Pen beyond familiarity and a polite friendship. Your comments on Stirling bringing nothing of interest and how he was just bland, that's because they were "adding in a twist" to make both he and Francesca on the autistic spectrum to be inclusive. The same with trying to make Francesca bi or gay in the very last five minutes of the final episode. Apparently they think autistic people just sit there side by side and say nothing all the time. 😒

I am not someone who insists that they be in historically accurate but all of that glitter and all of that it was just cheap cheap cheap cheap cheap! And if it wasn't cheap then they were robbed! They should have had more episodes. We needed to see Colin pine for Penelope. All that time with Colin being a f#*kboy was ridiculous. That's not what he was before so why was that him now! And even if he was going to have a revelation they cut that off too really. Just because we've seen these characters and the other two seasons does not mean that you get to ignore them in their own season. This was the worst season of bridgeton ever! Costumes pretty much terrible. The writing was terrible. The editing terrible. They needed to spend more time on the main characters i.e Penelope and Colin. And you are right the fact that Penelope dealing with the fact that she is Mrs. Whistledown is more interesting than her relationship with Colin tells us everything! I was at one point rooting for Lord Debling ... That's how unappealing Colin was. I hate that they robbed Penelope of her season. And let's talk about Penelope's best friend and Colin's sister Eloise. She was such a b****. Now I know that she's pissed that at Penelope. I agree with her being pissed. But it seems like everything is about her. She dumps Cressida when Cressida does no longer of any interest to her. She can't pay attention while she is supposed to be cressida's friend.

so many outfits were far too modern. And the MAKEUP? Penelope literally had full blown lashes and heavy contouring. WTF? It's the 1810s right? Not 2019 insta baddie era. So many costumes were awful. They were focused too much on glam and forgot to remember what suits each character individually and take into consideration the simplistic fashion of regency period. Season 1 and 2 did so well with outfits. I agree, even the editing was off on various spots; glaringly obvious cuts that took place at different times. Even the language is becoming more and more modern too. SMH.

Was it AI? Be honest Shonda! Did u use chat GPT for the script?))) What happened with the dialogues and metaphors and passion and humor? Basically every line was generic af. Actors tried their best - but for me all atmosphere, regency magic were gone. Too manu characters not enough depth to any - why I am expected to care about the same plot Benedict has EVERY season? Or for Polin who were in over all 20% of the screen time there? Though it is their season? Where is the character growth? The build up? Idk, i do not trust that new showrunner not to ruin it further more.

Unpopular opinion but the way people drag Colin about being mad at Penelope for all the horrible things she has said and wrote being lady whistledown and not one person says Penelope is not as nice as she looks so everyone was jumping down Colin throat for having some type of emotion and the entrapment comment after being betrayed by Marina and the person you said you loved writing horrible things about your family and your sister and then you and if Penelope wanted the Colin she knew back why does she not just ask why is he doing that if there's such good friends? I hate the way people said that Colin needed to beg more or to be more groveling but nobody said that Penelope needed to be a better person or change her character like I was not a fan of her this season and unnecessary hate Colin got and people praising anthony and Simon like Simon was activity lying to his wife because she was naive and instead of anthony to stop courting edwina and see if the feelings for Kate would go or keep growing he decided to propose but when Colin knew he wanted to be with Penelope he proposed and made sure he wifed her up quickly but Penelope the liar and impulsive writer who writes without making considering other people's feelings deserves better. Okay internet maybe you and I watched two different shows.

And people are trying to say Colin is toxic!!! Like seriously??? He is the least toxic character on this show! He's emotional yes, but very much deserved and allowed. It feels like no one paid any attention to season 1 or 2 because all the Polin buildup was there! This season was about Colin finally understanding that he's always had feelings for Pen and getting his girl. He needed his sister to not be in the way and to see Pen as a confident woman. Like people will write off all of Anthony's toxic behavior because his dad died but they won't allow Colin 1 harsh entrapment comment after he was traumatized by Marina and then brutally lied to and betrayed by Pen! Like LW is not a good thing. She used her anger and her hidden identity to bash people and humiliate them and ruin their reputations and dignity. Of course Colin is angry. However, he never displayed his anger in a cruel or aggressive manner and he actually listened to Pen when she was trying to explain herself. I feel like so many people wanted the angst and toxicity of Anthony and Simon for Colin but that is not who he is as a character, he's a sweet and sensitive man....plus when you go from Friends to Lovers, there is not angst, there's sweetness, compassion and gentleness because you already know, love, care and respect that other person. I loooooved season 3, most realistic and romantic season for me. Loved the lack of toxicity and the emotional intelligence that Colin had. He is far from being a boring character like others want to label him as.

Of course, it seems like they're shooting that down with Francesca getting love-at-first-sighted. *sigh.* I haven't read the books- I gather that that's actually part of her story (albeit with a man in the books), but I just loved and resonated with her and her take on romance, so to feel like that's going to get discredited.... Pen's excuses for writing about Colin were a bit gross. She was lashing out at him because she was angry, hurt and jealous, but as you said, that is the sort of conversation that should be kept between the two of them. The conversation they did have about it was great, but also soured by her initial response. She wants him the way she wants him, and didn't like that he changed, yet she's never once bothered to ask him why. Him believing that she lacks respect for him is completely understandable. I know she's a gossip, and a fundamental lack of consideration for other people's feelings and privacy is a given, but he was her friend for a long time. He always protected her, and saw her when nobody else did. What happened in 2x08 sucks, but one incident shouldn't negate all those years. Besides, Pen's intentional, pre-meditated, public attack on him was much worse than Colin's one-off, spur-of-the-moment comment to a limited number of people. All their conversations in S3 have been primarily focussed on her, largely because she let him believe he needed to earn back her friendship, when she'd already gotten her petty revenge. Her crush on him may have been one-sided in the first two seasons, but their friendship never was, until this season. Whether it's because the writers listened to all that toxic, entitled nonsense people kept saying about wanting to see Colin grovel, which is really gross, or for some other reason, that does not make for a healthy dynamic. I mean, she wanted him so badly for so long, but now that she has his love, she cares more about her ego? She'd really choose trashy gossip over the life she could have with him? Really?! Also, you were spot on about Eloise and Colin loyally keeping Pen's secrets, no matter how hurt and angry they were about them. Which is kind of ironic, since Penelope herself has little respect for anyone else's secrets.

Nah, best season yet for me. Beautiful, well developed & without the toxic stuff from the books and the other seasons.

I loved it too. I thought Pen and Colin were adorable.

Maybe I need to rewatch season 2 because I just don’t get the hype. The drama went on for way too long and they progressed Edwina and Anthony’s relationship way too far, to the point where I don’t understand Kate being with him. My sister is my best friend and if someone treated her the way Anthony treated Edwina, leading her on for so long while making eyes at her sister and basically saying that Kate couldn’t go far enough away to not tempt it, but also still trying convince Edwina to marry him, like I’d be turned off. I certainly wouldn’t marry someone who could disregard my sister and her feelings that way.

yeah watch season 2 again. because while yes anthony proposed to edwina and fucked up big time it was kate who begged him to marry edwina when he wanted to end it. kate thought her feelings would go away and she didn't want to hurt her sister feelings (and edwina practically yelled at her that she wanted exactly this life, the family the viscount and later told her she loved him) and anthony thought kate didn't love him back after she told him their feelings would go away and bc she begged him he wanted to go through with the wedding. even after the failed attempt he tried to convince edwina because he thought that is what kate wanted and bc he thought she doesn't return his feelings. honestly everyone was messy that season. even edwina. kate warned her about the viscount and even after ep. 2 when he humiliated kate with dorset edwina still set her eyes only on him. also as far as she believed kate and abthony hated each other and still she wanted to marry a guy her sister disliked and felt uncomfortable around and even forced her to spend time with him to get what she wanted.

No I get you. Also the pacing was so off. It was too slow and then it picked up so fast we didn't even see Kate and Anthony marry. We didn't get to see Edwina forgive Kate and be able to move on. And all these flaws were more obvious when Queen Charlotte came out. If they can write a story as tight and compelling as Queen Charlotte surely they can do that for the main Bridgerton shows.

@@katlikethatprodzsee the whole flaw of the story with Kate is why couldn't she just tell Edwina that she had feelings for Anthony. Edwina could have backed off. She didn't have to be humiliated at the altar. This is not an attack on Kanthony. But more so on what the writers did to Kate and Edwina. It's so hard to believe that the most responsible most hyper aware character would fumble so bad. Edwina could have just called off the engagement in private and still be upset with Kate. Kate attempts to run away thinking she's sparing everyone, an accident happens and Anthony chases after her. And this defense of "well Kate told her not Anthony" how can Edwina say no when Anthony keeps coming for her to the point that her family was invited in their country estate. For a young romantic girl that would be everything. And the fact that she let Anthony and Kate spend together because she TRUSTS her just has to be the most painful back handed slap. S2 was ridiculous and it was only saved by the amazing performance of the actors as an ensemble, the comedic timing of Jonny bailey and Simone and Jonny's steamy chemistry. If it were done by other actors it would be sooo bad.

@@Lime1958 Because the point was to get Edwina married to the best suitor she could find. Anthony keeps coming to Edwina even after he and Kate have their little moments with each other. She is visibly upset about it. What would her telling Edwina do except ruin her chances at marrying into actual gentry?

Great video... I can't stand the 3-ways as they are not romantic. Plus S1 + S2 were a great slow burn... while in S3, Colin and Penelope were just side characters... disappointed.

Hate to be that person but thus was the first season where one of the leads isn't diverse, so that is why they milked the mondridge storyline to give them a whole pointless storyline. Otherwise the only person of colour with a storyline would be Kilpatrick because Queen Charlotte and Danbury were more sidelined this season. Its cringe, but no idea why the Mondridges needed that much screentime. Heck I prefer Madam *dressmaker* better as an interesting character than the boring ass mondridges. Also I'm low key pissed Daphne wasn't at Colins wedding, like I get it, contracts and availability but atleast have someone say why she wasn't there 😢

Terrible costumes, reality tv makeup w/ matching lashes and the rough pacing. Eufff But the drama was decent. Sadly it overpowered the main couple. Its lucky that nicola and luke have that fiery explosive chemistry

Also, Michaela is STUNNING and has so much charisma. I’m a queer woman and I’m ready to be vicariously wooed by the notorious female rake of the Ton. I just hope her story isn’t butchered, especially by the writers doing John’s character dirty. I feel like if the writers do it right, Michaela and Fran could be all the fire and intensity that Kanthony is. Cause lesbian yearning is a different beast entirely iykyk.
