As a Winding Refn enjoyer I think Too Old to Die Young is the best thing he has made since his Pusher trilogy and has the same offensive edginess to it. But I can see how the show does not have mainstream appeal though cause it is too slow paced and too interpretive. The plot itself does not matter that much but it is rather about what the characters represent. The show is a critique of modern America which is shown in a state of decline. No one can be trusted and no one is sympathetic. Miles Teller, the cop main character, would in a normal show be a sympathetic character but he is a sociopathic criminal. The police force are shown to be a circus and no one takes the decline around them seriously while the Mexican Cartel characters Jesus and Yaritza become more powerful and they are victorious in the end. The only somewhat sympathetic figure in the show is Viggo the vigilante who decides to take the law into his own hands and clean up all the filth that the system overlook.

I can't decide exactly what the symbolism of the ending means. In the show, women seem to be literally destroying the world (the Ragnarok imagery and all that), pulling the strings on both sides of border, and that's not exactly depicted as a good thing even if it is "girl power." In particular, Jenna Malone's final order seems delusional (the ENTIRE trailer park is filled with pedophiles and monsters who deserve to die?), almost as if she's hit the slippery part of the slope vigilantism inevitably leads you to. A lot of the show feels like heavy-handed, anti-American and (particularly) anti-Bad Orange Man moralism, but Refn is too smart for that... right?

From Refn to Epstein to Art Bell haha 😅❤️ Great episode. Like it’s not PG13 ofc but CC felt at its core a lot like he just wanted do to something lynchian, political like TOTDY but more for the gen / the agegroup of his youngest daughter as it’s basically his Pusher Remix of and spiritual answer to Under The Skin. I‘m guessing especially since he casted all them in both that this and his Prada thing are most likely the direct result of being in lockdown with a family like his.

I disagree with about 99% of what you say but that 1% we do agree on or the movies suggested here are what keep me watching lol

Dude, it's pronounced Copen.HEY.gen. Come on now city boy! jk Nice shirt btw. I never got a chance to grab any of his merch before the long hiatus so hopefully he does some more "A24 ripoffs" I can snag. Also, just watched the new Hellraiser (Hulu Remake) and it actually was surprisingly pretty well made. I'd love to hear your take on it especially with the whole approach of the cenobites being mainly female casted and pinhead being a transgender woman. That would be pretty interesting.

Too Old to Die Young is the only Refn thing I ended up, ultimately, hating. (The last 3 episodes I watched entirely out of a feeling of "sunk cost" obligation and a hope it would somehow redeem itself. It did not.) But I loved the episodes up until then. And it prepared me for the weirdness and non-ending of CC, so when Kojima showed up and gave his weird advice, it just made me laugh. I love Refn, warts and all.
