I started making my own gravlox last year. It took me a couple tries to get the recipe right. Still learning to slice cured salmon, but am getting very close. I get great satisfaction from doing something like this on my own. Finally, I saved me some money!

That lox was a beautiful site. I know what he means about loving to slice lox. I've made my own nova from a fresh King from Alaska. A Copper River King. The best in the world. I saved one of the center cuts for making lox. I cured it with brown sugar and kosher salt, dry cure, and then dried it, then smoked it with hickory chips.
