I kinda feel like they pulled this out of their asses, the writers I mean. His character didn't seem that bad in season one, he was still an asshole and bully, but it didn't seem to the degree that they made it in season two. I really feel like they added this to his character out of nowhere. Like after watching season two, I assumed that his character would be much like how Scott Reed is, but no, I feel like they completely ruined his character for no reason.

I agree with u. what I think is, Scott had the development that they wanted for Montgomery but what happened is that they had something to put in the second season but not enough to make it super relevant. so they chose to make someone look really bad again. but who? Bryce is already in a bad position so adding other crimes/bad actions won’t impact his character as much. so In the end they needed someone that was already a part of season one but never really had a storyline. and Montgomery is exactly that. kind of an asshole on the surface but even in season one you can tell he has some problems at home + anger issues. so he already kinda looks bad, going around punching people for no apparent reason and overall just being a douchebag all the time. so they got him to be the bad guy in season 2 because if they didnt add his storyline in the show they wouldnt have anything to talk about in season 3. We’re going to see so much more of him/his personal life in season 3 and thats really thrilling to me. im not trying to defend him or anything but Im sure it isnt fully his fault for what he has done.

They killed him off so quickly in Season 3. Like, I actually shed tears. Sure, Monty was a bad person, but he didn’t deserve to die. Then again, I feel like something is up with the sudden death. I assume he was killed by someone in the prison but they never showed him. It was like he meant nothing. Just a kleenex being used once and thrown away. Monty deserved better. Riley Coleman There is no excuse for making a mistake. In real life you gotta own up to it and change for the better. If it’s genuine people will see it and eventually people gotta move on. For Monty, it can be strongly argued that his behaviours are caused directly by his upbringing. It doesn’t excuse his actions. Fact is that it serves as a reason for his behaviours. It provides the full story that is only fair to be needed before judging a character/person in their entirety. People are empathetic because they know how it feels to be raised a certain way or to believe in fucked up shit which messed up their mindset and deeply affects them in the future. It couldn’t be helped and it’s not their fault to be born into those circumstances. Some people argue that others in the same circumstances didn’t turn out the same way. Thing is, everyone is different. Some are weaker than others and circumstances that they can’t control, like family especially at a young age does not help at all. Which is why I feel both hate for him for what he did and also pity for him due to his circumstances and it’s also tragic because he could have changed if he had enough strength and courage to reach out for help or if Winston helped him in time. No one deserves to die.

He had troubles at home, it says how his dad came at him with a hammer and that is no justification for what he did to Tyler. But he deserved better. I agree he could’ve gotten better. I think the writers should’ve gone into more detail about his life, it would’ve been better, I cried at the prom scene 💗

Yes, Monty wasn’t a good person and he also deserves going to jail for what he did to Tyler but nobody deserves being blamed for a crime he didn‘t do! You can see that he self was abused by his father, so it is obvious that somebody can’t become a good person when he lives in such circumstances. The origin of his behavior and character is all caused by his father because Monty build a wall around himself. Moreover it is not correct of the producers that Jessica, Zach and Alex don‘t get blamed for what they all did to Bryce. This show tries to show up values and bring them up to real life but in this case it was a huge fault to twist the story like this! In my opinion the show loses in this case his meaning and values which the show actually tries to convey!

I really think that Monty was in love with Bryce if you watch season 3 there is a lot a little hints that points to it and it would make sense of everything that he would do who Bryce. I think he would go so far because he didn’t have a family at home so he went a bit crazy when it came to Bryce. I really hate and is so mad how they made his character and what they did to him in the end of season 3. Every time a character does something really bad they don’t allow them to do better and get better. I know he did some very horrible things, but season three really showed a good side in him. Like ya he stuck by Bryce and called him his brother, but I think it’s because he came from a damaged family and had a terrible childhood so he called his team his family, and was so loyal to them because they were his true family. bryce honestly played such a huge roll in what monty ended up turning into. monty stated two or three times that bryce and the team were his only family and he obviously has a very fucked up home life with his father. tyler basically screwed up the baseball season for the boys, and that was all monty had for a future, was a scholarship for sports. bryce left him at his most vulnerable moment, right after he realized he had nothing going for him anymore. he specifically told him to “leave me alone” which obviously hit hard for monty considering he thought of bryce and the team as his best friends, family, even home. he snapped, and turned into a monster. he became the same person that justin would have become if clay didn’t step in to help him turn everything around. except no one stepped in to help monty, and what he did to tyler is what he ended up turning into.

2:21 - never thought about the fact that monty looked over and was upset/jealous that zach was able to hang out with guys so effortlessly and ignore the judgement, including that from monty. he was upset that he wasn’t comfortable in his own sexuality and believed he’d be ridiculed for it as a result of emotional (& physical) abuse from his father. also, unpopular opinion: monty deserved better. even Tyler felt sorry for him and regretted turning him in. he understood why monty acted how he did. monty could’ve been one of the nicest guys from what i can see, had he not been mentally and physically abused all his life by his father. he hated himself so much that he took his anger out on people that reminded him of himself. winston 100% could’ve turned him around.

yea he went to jail and ani framed him for murder which is very wrong but he got killed in jail.

I really loved monty I don't know why they really had to go and make him do that to tyler. They should of made his character open his eyes like Justin did cause clearly both them have alot in common. Monty was an asshole in season 1 but by season 2 you could see he was just like justin lost and he hated what was happening but nope they turned his character into the worst alive besides Bryce.

He deserved better him & Justin Are the same they both trusted bryce bc they thought he was their home they both died they both had parent issues they we’re abused in their own home by the ppl they loved & they thought loved them the most the only difference is one got help bc he seen what was wrong with his life being that he was damaged & that he could change it if he left Bryce & the other the same way but he damaged his life a lot more after staying with Bryce bc he believed he didn’t have a choice or a chance & nobody else to go to.!😔💔
