This is one action packed hour! We have so much to share this week that we had to make it a little longer.
In this episode we stay at Loyalty Beach & Mutee Heads (FREE CAMP). We take the time to explore our surrounds finding 4x4 tracks, WWII monuments, bush fires, drone fishing and the famous Elliot and Twin Falls!

Recovery tracks 👍.Some of This was tough to watch 🔥, A Long handled shoveis 🛒is a must, helps to clear contact with underneath. alternately an additional airbag to raise enough to put in recovery tracks whilst enjoying the A/C. Re tyres. Maybe you did so ? Hopefully, I’m not selling snow to Eskimos so reminding everyone else, dropping air pressure to at least 18 psi works a treat, I’m assuming you did this off camera and forgot to tell everyone. Well as for the fire 😬 been there with a far more melted result glad you were out quickly. Re winches. Guess it’s always good to go (travel) with a winch from another party 😂. Seriously you had good fellow off roaders with the winch or snatch gear.
@BigOzExplorers
@BigOzExplorers 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Ian, we don’t really do the full 4WD 24/7 ep showing everything we did but the basics and more the personality etc is our focus... we did lift the bags and dig it all out as much as we could. Tyres were at 15psi as one of the cars was there a few days before and said it was super soft (and seriously it was so soft we learnt!) the car in front of us slowed on the track when we were driving through and we couldn’t dodge and therefore got stuck ourselves 😞 The fire was unfortunately unavoidable and the boys started filming quite late but it’s always interesting for people to see what can happen when remote like that with nowhere to go between multiple fires. Hopefully it’s scary enough watching us that they plan before it ever happens to them. 🔥 Hope you all came out unscathed in the fire you experienced mate 🤞🏻 Our front bar and winch are finally being installed in 8 days!!! We are so excited to be self sufficient finally! Covid really put a spanner in the works backing up the Y62 stock manufacturing earlier in the year. Thanks for watching again Ian 😁

Hey I don’t have a winch on the Triton, recovery points yes. Had one on Various 4WDs SWB Pajero, Land cruiser etc for at least hmm 20 ish years sadly never had to use it to recover myself, lots of others including Frazer newbies & a few sedan drivers who lost it on ice in snowy mountains , so far I’m tempting fate with front and back recovery points a couple of (4/6) recovery tracks + various snatch straps etc , I guess my only objection to winches was the weight intervention, heavy bar to support, spring suspension mods, brake upgrades etc ,oh did I mention the fuel consumption 😳 yes 16L per100kms, without towing camp trailer or runabout. So far after 60,000 kms in the last 12 months I haven’t needed winching but recovered a few lone travellers thanks to having invested in the odd beach driving pass. So eventually I’ll use the $79 recovery airbag but not so far , tested it only to find it’s not an exhaust one 😂. Hopefully Santa will bring us both an (www.outbackequipment.com.au/exhaust-jack?gclid=CjwKCAiAn7L-BRBbEiwAl9UtkC0lSkQUla8jeS-Cn7MkVXQJEC_LVk_wKupv6dpBuGNAvRBduavNLBoCRAgQAvD_BwE) Hint to Jane , still getting under 10L per 100 towing the runabout 😁 apparently there is a engineering mob in Brisbane that can fit a winch to most larger 4WDs without the need fot the heavy bar, can get you the info again you wish. Bye for now Ian. Edit , Almost forgot, as usual great drone footage gives all of us a sense of the area you’re at like going there. Great footage, editing, most don’t know how long it takes for a good edit. 👍

As always love the videos mate!!!!!! oohh, my 2019 Toyota Tacoma will also limit the throttle wile in 4wd(in regular traction control drive mode). What i found out is you have to push and hold the traction control button for about 5 seconds not just one time to cut it off ,and it will then disable the mode and let you send it!! Not sure how the Nissan works but i bet its close to the same. But the Tacoma has so many off road modes its crazy,even one for getting you out of sand (crawl control) But hey!! yall be safe and keep the uploads going! im always waiting on the next video here...lol 😁👍

A bogged 200 series with visible smoke in the background.. Lucky the fire didnt come through then. Turn your traction control off when in High range. Go do a 4wd course when you get back.. Please.
@BigOzExplorers
@BigOzExplorers 3 жыл бұрын
The fire had visibly been through there already, we were fine when the 200 was stuck. Drones show you everything! As for a 4x4 course... I, Sian, used to run our families 4x4 park and actually take visitors on 4x4 tours in their cars and night runs on my own, fun facts! We are happy to admit when things just go wrong and show you our mistakes, no one is a perfect 4x4 driver no matter how many years you’ve done it. ☺️ TC was off, this cars electricals are actually quite different to our old car plus we were with a group so why not dig it a bit further 😂if you get stuck, that’s the fun but, getting out 🎉 4x4 is boring without a bog every now and then 😂😁 cheers for watching and hope to see you next week 🤙🏻

4H with TC off. It wasn’t happy in 4H (but this was the go to in the Ranger funnily enough) eventually when we moved to 4L it was evident that would have been better. 4L in this car compared to the Ranger are very different. All apart of the fun learning a new car ☺️

Well there you go, learn something new every day hey! We have anywhere from 21 to 27L/100km depending on what weight we are towing! If we have full water and bulk food on board on dirt roads we are at the higher end but on bitumen with day today towing it’s closer to the 21 end. Speed also plays a big factor, 90 to 95km/h gives us the low numbers but over 100km and we will be around 24/25L :) we’re still figuring out the sweet spot because our weights can change in the van and the road terrain changes every trip! Lol

Hey Scott, we haven’t needed one yet! Would recommend carrying a puncture kit though just in case. I think you’d be right to get to the tip, the trick is to take your time and drive to conditions. If the road looks rough slow down, if the road doesn’t look rough, still drive slow LOL 😝 cheers 🍻

Gday guys great viewing as usual, would like to see more of inside your van , have forgotten what it’s like haha, couple of quick questions: How’s the generator going? Does it power your air con no problems?? Is yours an ibis 4? Will it run ok with out the inverter? What size was the generator again? 2 or 2.2 kava?? Cheers guys👍👍 oh and also what are your phone holders again? They are bloody rippers!!
@BigOzExplorers
@BigOzExplorers 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Steve! Ok, soooo... our genie is 2.1 and can run the aircon but it can cut out depending what other 240v appliances you put on concurrently. If you just use AC alone it’s no problem. We have an ibis 4 which is approx 1600w when running AC. What do you mean about running without the inverter? Our phone holders are by Scosche, it’s called the magic mount. Hope your keeping well in Emerald mate, how’s your temp there at the moment? We’ve been 38-42° consistently for weeks, feeling pretty accustomed now though lol
@Mrbeast0099
@Mrbeast0099 3 жыл бұрын
Big Oz Explorers yeah bloody hot here to around 38 fairly constantly, was even stinking hot at Yeppoon for our maiden voyage in our van 😁😁 . By inverter I meant do you guys run your inverter with your air con, we don’t have an inverter, I’m thinking of going for a 2400 watt generator just for a bit of added power in case we want to run some other things!! 👍👍 appreciate the reply, stay safe guys
