The profit goes to China. Look at American history. The people Native to what is now called the "Americas" - North, Central and South America, seemed to have went through what is happening to Africans now in Africa. Five-hundred years later, well let's just say it didn't work out so well for the Native Americans (so-called "Indians").

@@ruvilakazi4237 Actually, China had it worse. 16 years of almost constant warfare from the occupation of Manchuria to the sack of Nanking (I haven't even mentioned the Opium wars), life under Mao Zedong and socialist brainwashing. Before the 1700s, most of the world's wealth was concentrated in China and India, and the West looted it away, yet China didn't ask for reparations from either the West or Japan. They aren't bitter and continue to trade with both Japan and the China (two of their biggest trading partners even with the US-China trade war going on). They haven't blamed their failures on 'not having a good foundation due to colonialism and conflict with outside forces'. They knew that whether they liked it or not the responsibility to change their fortunes and destinies resided with them and not with anyone else. China is what African nations could have been had they taken responsibility. I feel ashamed when nations that where better off than China thirty years ago look at China like the new messiah for Africa. I mean, don't they have any shame or pride? I'm sick of the externalist explanations as to why Africa is so backward. Colonialism doesn't stop you from building toilets for your poor now does it? It's so shameful

I'm a White Australian and the Chinese have taken over large sectors of the Australian economy here as well: they're our main client for mining, they own massive amounts of our prime farmland, urban real estate and their students dominate our universities. It's been great for all the big businesses in this country but it has undermined the interests of many ordinary Australians and they exert a lot of political pressure on us fully aware of our economic dependence on them. I don't blame them for doing what they're doing but it's had a massive impact.

They are taking over the ports in many Caribbean islands. They are "helping" rebuild and build infrastructure for financial stake in these countries. But many times these agreements are very lopsided in favor of China. The work is done by Chinese workers . They keep separated from the people who are native and often bring all their needs with them. So no economic gain for the local businesses or people. It's obvious to everyone except the people who make the big decisions. Very sad.

It's the mega-projects. China loans billions for some of these projects, but if (when) the client can't pay back, they have stipulations that demand territory (a port, strategic land). Kenya's railway is a case in point. Remember, there are hellalot of Chinese people, so train passengers will pay off by buying tickets. But if your population is not as dense, it might be difficult to pay off a railway or superhighway.

Look at the hydroelectric plants in Ecuador. Money borrowed from China. China gets building contracts, employs only Chinese, now completed damns function at 10% and falling apart. Ecuador can't pay loans because no income from damns. Ecuador still owes Chinese All of the money plus interest. That's ok because China will settle for all the mining rights of the Amazon. True story.
