Sensational episode Thomas! You gave a lot of valuable advice not only to novice shooters. It's nice that you have turned your attention to electronic toys that will not necessarily do the job. One note for people who want to use a trigger trick. Do it very gently. The end of the film - priceless.
@THLR2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Yes, Ia gree. With the benefit of hindsight, I should have stressed more that this is a technique for learning to grip the rifle properly - once you got it, reverse and put the finger on last. Too many just grip the rifle or struggle unneccessary with getting the finger in the right place and thus never achieving "neutral trigger control".

The quality of the episode improves one by one… great work! Are you able to provide episodes/tutorials/tips for “hunting” shooting i.e. not shooting from a prone position, shooting fairly LR (-300m) from a stick, how to train this etc. Would highly appreciate such content. Glad you didn't need new pants! :D What part of Minnesota are you in? I used to live in Grand Forks, ND side but went across the bridge to Minnesota/ Cabelas more than once with my meagre student funds. All my hunting seemed to push me east as well (waterfowl), but it is my understanding that Minnesota can produce really good whitetails? Wasn't there for rifle season, so didn't go. Didn't hunt gophers or cottontails either, my three regrets for those years. I just didn't have the money to go anywhere.
@timjohnson27312 жыл бұрын
@@THLR I am in Central Minnesota(Monticello). You and I have visited about this before. I remember you saying you went to School in NoDak. There is in an abundance of wildlife throughout the midwestern U.S. Minnesota does produce some nice Whitetails, but the real giants are to the south of us in Iowa. People come from all over the U.S. to hunt Whitetails in Iowa. As you know, the midwest is a great place to live if you're a sportsman. My only complaints about the outdoors in Minnesota are: not many places to shoot long range, and our "State Bird" - The Mosquito. It is absolutely gorgeous where you live, but I assume for you the complaints are long Winters/Darkness and rain...lots of rain. LoL
@THLR2 жыл бұрын
@@timjohnson2731 Sorry, I forget. But I did not forget the mosquitoes, next level agression. My main concern now is all the snow, record levels, and if we get the usual melt I'll hafve a full basement when the ground saturates. Shovelling every day as a precaution...

@@THLR no worries Thomas, no need to apologize. You do a great job interacting with your audience and I don't expect you to remember everyone. Best of luck with the snow this winter. I have to tell you, whenever I am taking a friend to shoot long range for the first time, the night beforehand I send them the video that you and Ulf did about Long Range Shooting systems with your Blaser R8 - 338. It's very effective at getting people excited. I know it's not complex as far as the content goes, although there are some hard truths in there that I appreciate. But, it was so beautifully filmed and there is enough there to get new shooters REALLY excited. I know that was some years ago, but, thank you for making that video. I've always wanted to tell you that.

Thanks for that Tim. That was a publicity stunt for Zeiss, produced by David Wright from the british KZbin show Fieldsports channel. Zeiss needed a circus monkey and I needed to borrow authority from an established "hunter brand" to negate some local prejudice against longrange shooters; the fact that you are skilled with a rifle does not neccessarily change the hunt in a bad way. Very impressed with how that film came out, cameraman David is not a shooter but he understood everything and it was cut well on the first attempt.

So you mentioned spin drift, at what point do you make an adjustment for spin drift, assuming no wind present like this video. Is it once you’re at a certain distance you apply a spin drift adjustment?
@THLR2 жыл бұрын
It's there from the moment bullet leaves the barrel, but it doesn't amount to any significant/noticable amount until reaching 5-600 meters. With a windcall, it simply drowns in the windcall error. I apply 1 click left range 400 to 800 meters if I want to correct for it, which I rarely do. I rather aim and expect the bullet strike just right of the illuminated aiming dot in the reticle.

Absolutely. For a period of many years, I read "everything" that was published on the subject. Many of the books are simply poor (limited knowledge) or too specific to a task such as shooting x discipline or with y gear. Other books are technically correct, but you wade through a lot of words for not enough essence or it's simply too long or coloured by sponsor influence. The latter are not really bad books, it's more a matter of perspective as they don't align with how I would choose to teach. The one book I will recommend is written by Frank Galli of Sniper's Hide, just skip all the chapters about his personal development if you don't want to read it, and you're left with concise and solid advice. www.amazon.com/Precision-Rifle-Marksmanship-Fundamentals-Shooting/dp/1951115104/ref=sr_1_1?crid=VI6B3BTUWE1Q&keywords=fundamentals+of+long+range+shooting&qid=1638373494&sprefix=fundamentals+of+lon%2Caps%2C246&sr=8-1

@THLR2 жыл бұрын
Mange takk.

Absolutely. And make up your own mind of what that shooting really is and then what aspects of LR becomes most relevant to yourself. Your training resources will be limited, so a slight "specialist orientation" might be beneficial.

Myhr Våpenservice is fiddling on my K95, hope to have it back next week. If all goes well, I'm hunting chamois with it in January.

I really like your vids Thomas, and I agree with you in everything, but "finger on trigger first"??? What the hell? An inexperienced shooter can make a fatal mistake this way..

I agree with you Michal. I put in a flashing, written warning in the first episode, but in the end I decided that responsible gun ownership also includes being responsible for the safe handling of that firearm. If you use a firearm, you also own the responsibility. Much like a car.

Gikk i samme fella for 20 år siden.
