Why not continue to use TRDR, where you can see the actual Long:Short imbalance, as oppose to having to wait for breakouts and confirmations?

That's the original way tom described it. For me LS didn't worked well to predict movement before the breakout

Can you please help me wrap my head around this particular bit: if the price is moving up but open interest and the long/short ratio are both going flat, what does that mean? Wouldn’t a move higher mean there is more buying than selling which should reflect in changes in the open interest and long/short ratio. I’m using TRDR and this is what I saw yesterday when Bitcoin’s perpetual futures price pumped from 9520 to 9580, both the OI and Long/Short ratio went completely flat which I assume means there was no change in them. How’s that possible? By the way this is by far the best trading education KZbin channel out there. Your content is pure gold!

If it literally looked like a flat horizontal line it's probably because you're not using a payed account or trial on TRDR. Need to pay to get the realtime data.

How can you tell when it is the shorts being trapped or the longs being trapped?

I guess you know for sure after the range ends with move up or down and just jump on the next candle.

Okay, so I understand how to spot weak and strong imbalances now but aren't you still just guessing on what trend it is going to be? Like, Up or Down? How do you spot if the trend is going one way or the other? I couldn't really discern it from the video.

Great tutorial but 10:45 to 11:07 didn't make sense to me.. Bennett says that if price spikes on high volume with a drop in OI then shorts likely have been stopped out, liquidated or exited, that would cause price to consolidate or move back to LR. Surely if the trapped shorts did any of those things then price would rise pretty fast by nature of having bought back in?

if there is no liquidity to fuel a move then the move can't happen, there needs to be open positions to be able to keep the move going in a direction.

Well, I think it's difficult to predict which way the market makers will push the price after consilidation. One way to fix this would be pending orders above/below the range, the simpler the better.

Yes, but be careful when it diverges from spot. Oftentimes backwardation (where futures are trading lower than spot) indicates aggressive shorting by traders at a market bottom, or vice versa.
