Brilliant video, I have been looking at the wiring diagram for a TD5 for hours, but just seeing it in real time, it all makes sense!

The bulkhead, engine and chassis looms are. I honestly didn't think i'd be able to source these for sensible money, but for a lot of research and a bit of luck! The Td5 loom was my backup to convert to 300Tdi in case I couldn't find one.

Thanks for this brilliant video! I'm trying to repair a 1999 TD5 defender & am trying to find the 2 multi-connectors into the rear of the warning light panel on the dashboard - do you happen to know from your practical experience if they are C0230 and C0233?

Hello Mate, I have just had a working loom fire when on route. Managed to whip the light fuse out, however the headlights and horn wires melted a long way. The other wires are ok with no issues driving etc. would you say it is easy enough to replace just the lighting wires and thread them back! Not sure what the reason is yet as am stuck away however I think a wire was grounding! Any advise would be welcome. Great channel 👍 Danial 90td5 2000 (Sussex)

Don't use that isolation tapes for long use. They release and cause problems. Use textile ones and always keep them in tube

So timely for me! I am rebuilding a 1996, 2.5L petrol, Defender, ex-Oman army. I am struggling so much with the electrics. I have the headlights, windshield wipers, rear lights and cooling temp gauge working. Rest of the electrics are dead. None of the dash indicator lights are working (I checked all bulbs, all are fine). Indicators do not work, flasher works, back of the hazard switch indicates everything is fine, but somewhere from hazard switch to actual indicators everything goes to earth. Mike from Brittanica Restoration send me some diagrams, but I cannot figure it out. Any advice for me?
@lrworkshop5 жыл бұрын
It's important to know if it's been modified to fit the 2.5L, as that is not a standard engine for a 1996 vehicle. If so, then you could use the standard wiring diagrams. If not then it may take a lot of work. The wiring diagrams will help you see what colour does what type of circuit, which means you can follow the wire as the colours rarely change along their journey to a component. You could also use this page which shows all the wiring colours to help find the which connectors have those colours www.lrworkshop.com/connectors/defender-1996-300tdi/colour. A good methodology is to test where you have voltage, then follow the wires and test at every connector/splice to see where it stops.

I watched the video but I don't know if the answer to my question is in it. That's why I have to ask for help. I have a 300 TDI ROW (lhd). I want to fit a main harness from the td5 because it has a lot of features that I don't have on the td5, but mainly ABS, which is not available on any TDI harness. So the question is whether the td5 harness will fit the tdi, especially if the engine connectors are the same. Or if there are any incompatibilities TY

i’ve got a short somewhere in my drivers window motor wire. not sure what point it is between the bulkhead fuse box and the motor plug. anywhere that shows the loom for that?

Hi. Great video as usual. Always helps to get wiring orientation. One question if I may. I've a 1989 90 with standard wiring. I've just completed a full rebuild and having a few wiring gremlins. I can't get the oil light to work properly. Do you have any info on this. New switch fitted. Bulb tested and is good. I might be putting the bullet fitting in the wrong order. Any help very much appreciated. Thanks

Someone jumped started my 200tdi discovery engine in a defender. They put the red and black on the wrong way. I was going down the road turned the lights on engine cuts out. Is this because it’s now fried my electrics. Any help

any further information on how I can use a RHD bulkhead loom on a LHD TD5? I flipped it but a few of the engine bay connections are giving me fits... TYIA!!
@lrworkshop2 жыл бұрын
You'll have to do a lot of custom wiring. The looms are handed and in this video I explain a bit more about why (as you've found out) kzbin.info/www/bejne/jGjdYqVsf6mUbtU

Wow what a great video can you please please please help me? Do you know if a 1997 300tdi loom will fit a 1989 200? 🙏🏻
@lrworkshop4 жыл бұрын
Well it will probably physically fit, although would possibly need some modifications for different connectors in the engine bay, but I would think it's possible. Plus a 97 (UK spec) would have an immobiliser and alarm that would need to be brought over.

Awesome video!! What color is the dangling piece of wire? Does it needs to be connected to somewhere? I am going crazy with this part whilst im redoing my td5 wiring loom!
@lrworkshop3 жыл бұрын
Hi Martin. Can you tell me the timestamp in the video that you can see the dangling wire? (there's a few!)
@martinlaur59243 жыл бұрын
@@lrworkshop At 8:04 You talk about a loose cable related to the alarm unit. You describe it as Aerial! I Found it in the wiring diagram and the electrical manual of the td5. It sends a signal to the ECU right? But is it really just dangling around there? On my wiring loom I can`t find where it is supposed to be connect to and there is no other end of the cable around to connect it in case i ripped it when disassembling the loom.
@lrworkshop3 жыл бұрын
@@martinlaur5924 Ah yes. That's the aerial for the key fob transponder for the alarm/central door locks www.lrworkshop.com/connectors/defender-2002my/C1136 The wiring diagram and connector library list it as a connector, but it's just a way of documenting it. The 2007+ connectors with the same wire describe it as "cut bare end"
