I love these videos aimed at the Defender geeks. More the merrier as far as I’m concerned.

I was watching this as the factory radio in my new-to-me Td5 was sitting wonky, it turns out that the factory radio at least does have proper support at the back if it's inserted correctly. The hole you point out at 8:00 is used if the radio has the original rubber dingus on the back. I was ready to rig up a similar support to yours but it was just a case of putting it in the right way. It's still a Defender so it's still a loose fit, but it's good enough for me! Hopefully this can still help someone. I can't link here but the radio I have is the Visteon CD player, if you search for it there are a few images with said rubber dingus in place but most are missing. Potentially a good use of 3D printing if one was ever needed.

Hi, Hopefully, you're still monitoring this channel. I'm relocating the rear heater, fog light and hazard switches from lower right (steering wheel) to a central console as per the video. Can you explain the re-wiring steps that use existing 300TDI wires into TD5 switches ? For example, fog light only has 2 wires (white and white/green trace), but is this just straight plug and play via 5 PIN connectors to the right 2 terminals only ? Similarly for rear heated window. Yours, frustrated amateur !

Wish I could have picked one up for a 250 quid, at the moment they are super rare and most people go mud console now days

I’ve gone mud console on both my 110s the first one in my 200tdi didn’t have the fitting kit like the newer mud console. The newer type I’ve just is much better and it’s less likey to be from some one else’s pinched motor.

One sold for £300 in the last 2 weeks on ebay. Keep an eye out and they'll appear!

My radio was always falling down due to the weight at the back- I have 3D printed a spigot that can be bolted onto the back of the radio to support the weight from the back aswell- seems to work well!

Any chance I can buy one of these from you? I really need one!

Radios when fitted in locations like this are supposed to have a rubber conical bush that sits on the stud at the back (holding the bracket you added) that locates into the hole in the bulkhead bracket. It’s common to many vehicles, but the rubber gets lost when people take the dash or stereo unit out and then the back is unsupported, damaging the fascia like you said.

@nickboylen6873, @joestamperbmx, @lrworkshop - do any of you know where to get this rubber conical bush? This is EXACTLY what I need!

The early pre 300 defenders have bolted levers whereas the later ones are riveted together, they also moved the pivot point so the flaps won’t open as far. They have the same number of washers so can’t see why the holes won’t line up on yours barring the bracket being bent?

I see the round knobbed type is a horrendous price for what it is!

Yes they aren't cheap. I have some backups I found cheap once. The bracket that holds the hinge may be a bit bent...

What are the benefits of using a td5 rear door
@phillangdon85894 жыл бұрын
I’m really interested in the wiper loom info. I’m currently running a 300 with a puma rear door. The original 300 loom retro fitted to the door but really want to fit the doors original puma loom so I can get a high level break light fitted. Any and all advice is most welcome. Great videos with excellent content. Keep them coming!

LR Workshop & Expedition Thanks for that. I’ve also downloaded the video you did with the CHMSL as I recall you changed the connector. I’d like to do both jobs at the same time. Amazing help, I’d never manage these things without the videos. Thanks again

I would like to do mine as the electrics aren’t great and dash is in awful condition as it’s an ex military vehicle. So There isn’t many electric bits on it like no windows, heating, AC, etc etc. But it’s out of my knowledge. Where could I pay someone to do it?

In the UK there are lots of independent Land Rover specialists that would take on the work

Whats the advantage of doing this?
@lrworkshop4 жыл бұрын
It's mostly aesthetic. You lose storage space in the dash, which is why some wouldn't want to do it. I find the centre console more ergonomic and allows fitting some extra goodies from later vehicles like heated seat switches and electric window switches
