@@chadkostecka4226, you might have a broken blend door in the air distribution housing. You have to pull the dash to get to the housing.

Hi..2012 same.. Right side.. Held actuator in hand and powered it..gear turned 3 times around before stopping as from hot to cold or cold to hot changing thermostat control..?? So when u say line up arrow and mark on new gear inner edge..not sure which rotation of actuator to stop on..Will try different ways I guess.. Good info though sir

Took off actuator again to double check gearing and full door stop points.. Seems it all wrks again thx..your explanations were better than others.. Right side though even on low cold seems to have warm bleed through..better that hot when cold selected.. Good stuff neighbor

Okay… so I have a problem. The other gear on the inside that controls the heating and cooling - the gear is not facing downward like this one in the video. On mine, the teeth are facing toward the engine.. so how do I go about matching up the gears together because I can’t pull the other gear back downward to fit together with the other gear on the actuator itself? I can’t get the gears to match up. Is there a way to get that inside gear to move to have the teeth facing down?
@LeonardBrownArtbyLeonard Жыл бұрын
@Lonnie Kinder, Hello, I remember watching a video where someone lined up the gear. I can’t remember which video it was but you can try to turn the ignition on and cycle the temperature system to see if the gear turns.
@lonniekinder9628 Жыл бұрын
I tried that. It just doesn’t move. The other one (on the new part) does move but it just keeps moving periodically and then stops for about 30 seconds. Having a hell of a time with this little problem.

Your blend door is stuck or the actuator itself is bad.

@tyronewalker5764, I would check your owners manual to see if there’s a fuse for your blend door actuator.

Howdy! Thanks for the video! I wonder... if the issue extends to both Left and Right front vents but not the rear vents, is that then something upstream of the individual actuators and gears? It seems the likelihood of both the left and right actuator gears stripping out simultaneously is slim.

@Randall Shutt, Hello, hopefully this broken gear problem has been corrected by the engineers on later models of the Durango. Thanks for watching!

@@LeonardBrownArtbyLeonard Here's what Im thinking. When the battery is disconnected for some time (15m?), the various controllers/ECUs reset. The resetting of the HVAC ECU forces a calibration of the actuators, which are servo/stepper motors. These types of servos/motors don't report position independently and rely on something keeping track of their current tick. I had a weird event where my entire center console, including radio, HVAC, and backup camera functions, and my power door locks and windows in the front just stopped working. As an attempt to fix this, I disconnected the battery for 15m It didn't help in any obvious way, but 2 days later, the entire stack just started working again. However, I am left with this stupid "front climate always burning hot" on both the left and right sides. My working theory is that the HVAC controller in charge of these servo motors came up and calibrated against motors and telemetry systems that had no power and resultantly would not actuate, not sense, or both. So now the system has the one defacto setting which is "burning hot"? If this is the case, it stands to reason that another 15 minute deprivation of voltage at this time, since the actuators and the resultant measurement system(s) now have power and can actually be calibrated, th e entire problem should just go away. Of course now that I consider it, the act of trying this would have taken less time than writing this message :)
@randallshutt29072 жыл бұрын
Actually nope, it's the actuator or the gear... at least now. The passenger side blows cold air now. If I'm not mistaken, it was blowing only hot before, but I can't say that with 100% certainty. The driver's side blows only hot. So it's time to bust my hands and back up on the floorboard. Sigh. Edit - it's a 2014 DD R/T with a 6.4L crate motor, 9.5:1 compression, and 8# of boost :)
