??? These motors don't usually require that . Novak makes motor mounts for the 5.3 and 6.0 that place the engine right in the bay without any cutting on an xj . The hood is usually the clearance issue depending on what stuff you use o. The intake truck or car . I have considere a v8 but I already have an atlas 5.0 that would require a change to a 3.8 or a 4 speed case to make use of the v8 as the 5.0 would redline at about 30 mph just like 4.0 making it useless... The only thing i want the v8 for is hill climbs the 4.0 and atlas are plenty for rock crawling with 42s ... long steep loose climbs ...not so much .

After watching you push that Jeep in by hand, I have a suggestion for you. I went to harbour freight in but a cheap $60 ATV which that does 2500 pounds. Welded up a couple of brackets and bolted it to my garage floor. I just run it off a spare car battery and use the wireless remote to pull all the vehicles into my shop so I don't have to have a bunch of people help push it up the hill on my driveway to get inside. I think I'm $80 in plus a battery and a couple hours worth of work max. Totally worth it.

21:28 That's aftermarket and for anyone who lifts an XJ with like a 32" or taller tire this is a must because those tires will tear your steering box off. That unibody can't support that much stress. Also a steering box spacer and front unibody stiffeners will help. On 37's the whole unibody should have stiffeners specially now that it's running a V8. If this guy is gonna wheel this thing and flex it out that body will be tore apart in several places very quickly. Hopefully this is next on his list.

My 4.0 is almost perfect. I live in Montana. Where it has a problem is actually on the highway. The speed limit is 70 and the winds blow at 40 mph. It's like asking a stock 4.0 to run at 120 mph and it results in full throttle to do 60 into a 40 mph wind which is Montana realistic. I need it for the highway.

I've been curious about doing a V8 swap on an XJ but using the 4.7l V8 from the Dakota or Ram. You'd have to find one that hasn't been abused although I'd pull the heads on any swap candidate from any manufacturer and send them to the machine shop for prep, including a valve job. The 4.7 motors are dirt cheap and make as much power and torque as any 4.0 stroker without the overheating problems. The 4.7HO motors make even more and are dirt cheap, especially since the Hemi has replaced it. And despite the OHC setup, they're actually fairly compact and will fit under the hood of an XJ. Probably no good reason to choose it over an LS swap seeing as most of the same stuff has to be replaced either way you go other than being able to say you have a Mopar V8 in your XJ. The price of the motor would be the biggest factor. You also get access to the 545RFE transmission which has a lot of support and is pretty reliable as long you don't go crazy with the power. Most of the guys blowing them up do so with the hemis.

Hopefully I missed these recommendations in the previous video but there is some cheap insurance that should be done to a LS junkyard engine. 1, replace front and rear engine seal. 2, replace timing chain and gears. If you do replace the timing gears and chain, you might as well buy and aftermarket performance camshaft. The cam can be replaced without removing the heads and will greatly improve the low end torque of the engine which will help with these monster tires. I believe the oil pump must be removed to remove the timing gear set so it only makes sense to replace the oil pump with a new OEM unit. 3, if you ever pull an oil pan, always verify the clearance of the oil pickup tube. It is fast cheap and easy. Thanks for the video.
