Bought my new 67 SS Chevelle 396/350HP 4-speed after I got back from basic training at Fort Polk . It had AC and powering steering am/FM radio & 3.08 gears. Marina Blue with black vinyl top . After 2 into 2 headers it woke up big time . Then 3.73 gears and I was running with the big boys ! Now THOSE were the days and I give the LORD ALL the Glory !!

The problem with new cars, like the HellCat, Demon, SS, LS and all that fancy shit is: you BETTER be fast, or what good is it? With classics, its good, no matter what.
@Dr_Xyzt
@Dr_Xyzt 4 жыл бұрын
People get too pent up on performance. When I did my LS swap, it transformed my truck. In town, I can land myself in jail with any gear. It does 56mph in 1st gear. Once you get away from factory equipment, life just gets so much better. I feel like these old muscle cars capture that. The people designing them had turned wrenches before.

Bullshit. You don't need to be fast to be cool. I'll be damned if someone would think a modern Challenger R/T, for example, is not a "good" car. It's not the fastest, but with a six-speed and nice exhaust it's a hell of a good time and a hell of a car.
@hemiheritage
@hemiheritage 3 жыл бұрын
Better be fast?? Lmao They're plenty fast Fast enough to blow the doors off most any ole skewl musclecar but I do love the classics. Love it all Classics and modern muscle. I'll gladly take a widebody 392 with the Shaker any day of the week but I'd love an old camaro, chevelle, nova, cuda, 68 charger too. My 2006 daytona charger is quite a bit of fun too with LT headers, big valve heads, cam, pedal commander, 85mm TB, upgraded pulleys, suspension, stage III performance chip, staggered wheel set up, dynotune, etc etc etc I've had more fun along the way turning a reasonably stout stock daytona into a fairly formidable four door Family sedan musclecar lol

Yoo Jastle: Yep it's day in the sun is gone, however, they were class all the way compared to today's offerings. I'm not saying today's muscle cars don't have the power to out perform the old muscle cars, they just don't have the same mystique. imho

I bought a new corvette back in 2008. It's quite fast, it gets great gas mileage, it looks good, it doesn't break down, it handles well, it has all kinds of luxury shit, etc etc etc.. So why am I looking at Chevelles for sale and contemplating trading that vette in to get one? There is something about the old school muscle cars that can't be captured in a modern vehicle. I probably should have got the chevelle in the first place.

This clip made me SO remorseful!!!! Had a new 1968 Camaro SS/RS L78, red w/black vinyl top. Most fantastic car I ever owned. I've had a new '66 Chevelle, a '70 (used) Vette, 1 '70 Chevelle, 3 Typhoons, BUT nothing came close to that Camaro. Yep, the sound of the pipes, the lop of the engine at idle with the solid lifters, the ease of pulling away at a stop light or, much better, entering the freeway....So stupid when you're 22 (yeah, turning 77 in 7 days and still 22 inside)!!!! I feel like crying.

That camaro has the entire classic muscle experience nailed. The sound. The look. It's a rite of path. The Chevelle is close. A set of 17" Torq Thrust 2's would have it right there. The only better sound is a built big block with 40's dumped in front of the rear axle. It's like a bomb going off.

No small block or modern technology can replace the shear brutal torque and horsepower of any big block. I have owned big block chevys ever since i was 16 in 1982. Today i still have my 1971 camaro with a big block and i will never get rid of it for anything, no luxury cars can ever be for me.

Joshua Martinez ,you can it take 5 to 10 yrs to build a car like that blue chevelle. I have a 72 that I started working On it in 2004,painted myself did all the mechanical,it does cost money but if you budget in some money once a week,once a month the average person can do it. How many times do we go out to eat a week and spend 15 to 20 dollars when it can go to a project like this? That how I look at it.

Oh sure more HP way more torque (which is what moves the vehicle) add to this the RO weighs less and NO CONTEST.
@GlassTopRX7
@GlassTopRX7 6 жыл бұрын
The LS2 makes similar torque and more HP than a L78. If you are comparing stock to stock. The L78 was rated in gross HP at either 425 or 375, in net hp that's only about 350-300hp. They make about 425hp with manifolds and about 450 with headers in gross power. The LS2 makes about 470 gross hp with manifolds and close 500hp with headers in gross numbers. The same is true of the torque rating although that doesn't take as big of a hit between net and gross. The LS2's power and torque curves are flatter and broader than the somewhat peaky L78. Acceleration is all about HP in any vehicle with multiple gears, specifically average power through the rev range you are using. Torque measures twisting force, HP measures what you can do with that twisting force over time. So a car with 500lb-ft and 300hp is going to accelerate slower than a car making 300lb-ft and 500hp every time. You can multiply torque with gearing you can't multiply power. I would still rather have a L78 for the cool factor but if it's about performance the LS2 hands down. You are shedding 300lbs of engine weight with the LS2. Even with aluminum heads it's still 250lbs lighter. There is a reason that the LS is the engine undisputed king of engine swaps. It's may not be much to look at and sounds a little off, but they are cheap, reliable, light, and powerful even in stock form.

That chevelle LS2 sounds so good. The best part when it comes down to it, that camero would not beat the chevelle in a head to head match. Yes the big block sounds good and its old school but that LS2 is to much for that 396. Cubic inches dont mean crap in todays world. My 04 Dale Jr Monte Carlo SS 3.8 supercharged 400 hp is nothing but a tire shreading bitch. 1987 buick proved to the whole world with their Grand National GNX. So gone are the days of big block old IRzoN heads and carbs. Give me a V6 with a supercharger and some tuning and im happy.
