LS3_LaFlare let me ask did you teach yourself on the ls swap? Or went to auto school and just picked up knowledge here and there as you go along. Like what tips could give for a noob like myself.
@LS3_LaFlare5 жыл бұрын
Muggo Mad self taught. In 2016 a guy named Brett Hupcheck or something hyped me up that his shop could swap. When I bought the engine/trans (LS1 originally), he stopped replying to me and ignored me. Guess he didn’t think I was serious! So stuck with engine and trans etc I had to suck it up and knock everything out myself. Asked for help from a lot of people only to get ignored or short answers! Basic stuff like AN fittings I didn’t understand. I bought books and magazines (overkill), mainly for tuning, and forums of other platforms for fueling, understanding fittings, cooling, etc., and my Dad is an electrician so he helped me grasp the basics of wiring. Now I’ve done so many swaps (GTO, now 300zx) that it all comes naturally. Some guy asked me why his o2 sensors cut off after starting the car and I immediately knew it was grounds blah blah my point is pony up and become independent. People suck. Google is awesome. Teach yourself! Or, because nobody helped when I was a noob, I document and film my builds to show people no matter if you are rich or poor, tools or no tools, smart or dumb, IT CAN BE DONE. Cheers.

This 2011 Genesis Coupe (3.8 Track originally) was parted out in 2018 after I blew the tranny (Tick lvl 2 T56) during a pull after it was supercharged. It was a great few years (bought in 2015, it seen a LS1, LS3 NA, and LS3 supercharged), but instead of dumping more and more money into the platform, I decided to switch it up. I think I parted it out in early 2018, selling the engine, trans core, swap kit, shell etc... Then I bought a GTO on my channel and took out the LS1 in that, added LS3 NA, then supercharged it! Now... I have a 1990 300ZX that has a supercharged LS3. All of it on my channel for those interested!

If you don't mind me asking, how much did the engine and tranny swap cost? It's got amazing power, probably more than I would need. How is it through the turns? I'm assuming it slides around a lot more than before. Liked and Subscribed, awesome work man!
@LS3_LaFlare6 жыл бұрын
It is kinda hard to put a number on it. 2016 it had a LS1 in it, 2017 it had a LS3, 2018 it has a supercharger on it. I do a bunch of roll racing, I have not road coursed the car so im not sure how it will handle. FWIW, the LS3 is 50lbs lighter than the 3.8, and the T56 is considerably lighter than the auto.

And thank you for the sub! I will post a video tomorrow!!!! S/C reveal.
@charliebrownsd6 жыл бұрын
Good info. I've even contemplated putting the Hyundai 5.0 into it but then it becomes a transmission nightmare whereas the LS motors have transmissions to match and it is about the same amount of work and the Hyundai motor is an unknown on reliability. The LS motors are known for reliability and parts availability so that makes the repair scenario better. I guess the handling isn't too hard to nail down once the power is in place, just a matter of setting it up right. What differential are you using? LSD?

@LS3_LaFlare6 жыл бұрын
First, there is no kit that boasts 509whp. Bk2 3.8 is 420ish, even less with a BK1. Anybody pushing more has had internal work done and that will get you up to 10k. So costs are the same. Been through this in several back and forths with 3.8t guys in GCO. I'll take the power delivery, reliability, ease of maintenance and head turning bald eagles flying out of my. exhaust every time. I want 509whp I can put a bigger cam in. I want 700whp I can get a LSA supercharger off of a ZL1. There was a LS3 that just hit 1000whp with STOCK bottom end. So the swap isn't the end goal, its just laying the foundation for something bigger. Can't say any of that about a 3.8t.
