While LS motors are pretty popular and plentiful here in Australia, I don't know anyone who's done the work to make one operate suceesfully in a Miata/MX-5. It's cool that at least in the Americas it's relatively common. Have certainly heard about the need to maintain oil pressure at the track though!

Interesting that the LS swap isn't too popular in Australia, what's the common swap choice?
@Bbeavis4 күн бұрын
@@mostlyuselessgarage Engine swaps into a Miata/MX-5 is 'uncommon' I guess.

Super interesting motor. I missed some of the biggest info though. Not sure if you mentioned it. What is the displacement, and where does it redline?
@mostlyuselessgarage3 күн бұрын
You're right I didn't include that ... it's a 5.8L or 354.5 cu.in and the redline is 7200rpm. Great question!

Rad build .. whats your thoughts on this swap to the ecotech to a k swap , or even an inline 5 ir 6 cyl or maybe a vr6 ... i have a ton of ideas , just not enuf funds to do so 😅... It looks like ya had fun, brotha, and that's all that counts at the end of the day .. peace and love all, keep it rad, stay safe, and build on..l8r famz and keep having fun all
@mostlyuselessgarage4 күн бұрын
The LS uses a V8 Roadsters swap kit but needs some cutting and welding of the chassis to fit the trans. K and Ecotec don't need much if any modification. So it depends how much you can fab vs buy.

Very cool car, but confusingly complicated motor combo. Would have made more power with an LS3 and rec port heads.
@mostlyuselessgarage4 күн бұрын
What would part do you think is confusing? As he mentioned, the motor is a bit cobbled together with parts from the LS1 installed into the LS7.
@jeffg40084 күн бұрын
@mostlyuselessgarage it's not simply "installed onto an LS7". That combination took a custom set of rods and pistons. Maybe the short block was cobbled together as well. It definitely doesn't seem the path of least resistance for LS power but it's different, I'll give him that.
@chrisbrookshire8613 күн бұрын
He did the destroked crank to get better rod geometry at higher revs. They not as extreme of angle so less side loading.
@jeffg40083 күн бұрын
@@chrisbrookshire861 that makes zero sense. As an owner of an LS7, I can tell you the stock geometry has zero issues rod angles. The LS7 may have some head geometry issues, but not rod angle, unless maybe he is looking for 8k+ rpm with regularity. Clearly he is not looking for that because of his head and intake choice as well as it being a street car so I am going to assume it has a small-ish cam and compression. I am not attacking the guy and think it's a fantastic car, but the power plant combo is confusing at best. It seems a waste of an LS7 block but maybe he got a fantastic deal on it for some reason. They did say it was cobbled together. I can respect that

I’m completely against LS Miata’s but also can’t imagine a funner car to drive
@TheCaffeinatedDrive4 күн бұрын
Why are you against LS miatas?
@trahar62574 күн бұрын
@ I just like smaller displacement engines better and as long as you don’t go over 250 or so ft lbs you can keep it all Miata driveline. The Honda J series would be a dream swap for me but nobody seems to have that dialed in either

If I had to use one word to describe the car, I wouldn't choose fun. Maybe terrifying.
