A LS swap with a curb of 2790lbs, and 50/50 is insane.
@gofetchdesignllc22355 ай бұрын
Hate to sound like THAT guy, but it's the most impressive part of buying something like a used c5z or c6z. 3080 or under with zero weight reduction, 50/50 and a FAR more capable chassis. Even a regular coupe isn't far off and its not difficult at all getting them to 2800-2900 lbs. I was very close to LS swapping my last but the smart money is on the vette. That said, the experience in a car like that is pretty non trivial. I've driven many cobras, own a blown vette and a viper but an LS3 Miata would be an entirely different animal.

@@gofetchdesignllc2235 also its 2790lbs with everything in it, and it's 51/49 like he said, there is room to lose some weight, a vette striped won't have that weight distribution and at the end of the day you lose the sleeper factor. do this swap in a ST miata and you lose another 160lbs, and you still have a modern car with a decent interior, options...
@BrHH7724 ай бұрын
@@gofetchdesignllc2235 well the reason old corvettes are comparable in weight is due to old chassis and body being less safer than modern cars by a lot. plus unterior is a garbage, and cutting it out wouldn't exactly be the correct comparison. my c7 gs 1lt with forged wheels, full unterior is ~3400 lbs. That car would be more or less comparable to ND miata in terms of safety/modern interior. And soft top v8 Miata would be 750 lbs lighter... but c7 gs would cost you just ~60k, which is way less than 100k Miata

@@dub88acc I understand what you mean, but this is not a Porsche or Lotus. Much of the engineering has already been accomplished by Mazda and Flyin’ Miata. The cost and labor of the parts is at a premium. There is no reason to buy this car if you can get those cars with loan and a full warranty or a lease. It’s a very expensive novelty otherwise that most people that enjoy Miatas are going to balk at. If you undercut those cars with a better price, then you’ve got a great opportunity to make even more money because of a value that will increase the company’s profits through volume. Everyone wins. Maybe they are doing it that way, but it doesn’t seem like it.

Under 100k mile 2015-2019 Miata's are going $13k-$19k in my area, so you can find one dirt cheap if it has issues and high miles. LS3 engine off a 5th gen Camaro under $5k or find a low mile mild built one for $10Kish. New T56 magnum for under $4k. Used rear end with fresh rebuild under $1,500. Engine mounts, ECU, brakes, axles, and other misc parts $5Kish, probably less. That's under $40k on the high end. Don't forget you can sell the stock parts you pull off your Miata.

Its great as it is . Modern Cobra + Daily Commutor car in one . I like that its overbuilt where it should be and underbuilt where it should be , meaning the engine is a stock LS that is good for 200k even getting on it some , moving such a light car. However . Its quite obvious that some type of wide body or flairs and some wider tires at least out back would pay some dividends . Its fine as is but any extra traction at low speeds would return a good amount of shove . The 1/2 shafts are supposedly super stout and its not like its gonna dead hook with slightly wider tires , your still gonna be spinning the tires if you want but you will go faster outta the hole and reduce wheel spin at 100 mph at full throttle . The Porsche beating it is not at all surprising . That Porsche is like the best car to bring to a drag race here as far as surface and altitude . That Porsche is a problem for many NA RWD MT cars regardless of power or price on this runway . Miata is certainly more exciting and way less expensive . But yeah , it would be even sicker with wider tire with the stickiest compound .
