Something I’ve noticed with a lot of legacy franchises (Godzilla, SpongeBob, Call of Duty, etc.) is they start of great, become bad for awhile, then new blood comes in and it becomes a mixed bag.
@theuberedredspy8791 Жыл бұрын
I'd say the biggest cause of this is the original writers leave, and then new writers are forced on that have no attachment to the original series, and by the time they need to hire new writers, there are plenty of new writers who grew up with the original property and naturally understand it a lot better.

Exactly, i think what made american dad good and imo better than both family guy and modern simpsons is that they completely ditched the political commentary to just become...well funny, they have a little satire here and there but its usually just gags while the entire episodes just center around the characters doing stuff fun stuff, and in an era where EVERY adult cartoon wants to make a statement (and fail miserably) its refreshing to have an actual comedy

I will say that the reason why there seems to be a shift in Season 33 is because in the first time since Season 13 we got a new showrunner thru Matt Selman He has been on the show for a while and is even credited a few times between Season 21-32 but they where always usually 1 or 2 episodes per season (in my opinion the episodes he showrunned where usually the highlight) but from 33 to now he is now a main showrunner, with Al Jean taking a step back and sometimes showrunning 1 or 2 episodes now I really hope that as the show goes on we go back to how the show would change showrunners every few seasons. Matt G, James L, and Sam Simon did Seasons 1 and 2, Al Jean and Mike R did Seasons 3 and 4, David Mirkin did 5 and 6, Bill O and Josh W did 7 and 8, Mike Scully did 9 thru 12, and Al Jean did 13 till 32 It helps the show from feeling stagnate and you can definitely see the show starting to do more once we properly got a new showrunner at the helm

I’d be interested in seeing them go back and remake bad episodes I had two ideas * Miracle on Evergreen Terrace- The people of Springfield just dump their unwanted presents onto the Simpsons who find enjoyment in them. Also since the people of Springfield wanted an excuse to get rid of the gifts they don’t want, they forgive the Simpsons (Mainly Bart) for the whole lie * At Long Last Leave - Many of the Simpsons friends are against the family being banished, not just out of loyalty but because it’s just going to be undone eventually. A commentary on the “Status Quo is God” trope. The Simpsons do go to the Outlands but only out of their own volition.

I think them occasionally adding a real Halloween episode is a good move since they haven't really been able to explore it much because of THoH. But making a serious episode about the subject or just putting more time into a parody isn't that bad of an idea. The Simpsons have been getting a lot better than what people gave it credit for. I like to think it's thanks to more of the writers becoming attached to the show, instead of writing it off as another resume piece, but also that the showrunners are taking chances and getting great results! From A Serious Ned, Pixelated and Afraid, last years The Treehouse of Horror with Death Note, and Krusty the Clown as IT, they have been really smashing it out of park with some great episodes! Sure there's a few DUDS here and there, but overall the experience has been wonderful! Especially for his longtime fans of the series! The Ms. Wigum and Cletus episodes are the big problem I have with the Simpsons as a whole. The Simpsons is at its best when it’s exploring little stories of white trash in American suburbia. Nobody in town should have a wild, cool backstory. Moe should never be in a quartet. Homer should never have gone to space. Life is hell and everyone is a disappointment- that’s the joke. “22 short stories in Springfield” is great because it focuses on the small lives of dumb people. I think king of the hill kinda perfected this concept better, but it’s a shame because Springfield and its inhabitants have a unique feel I’d like to see more of. When Simpsons is small, it’s at its best (imo).

I originally put off watching new Simpsons for some time, until I checked some of Season 33 out and was pleasantly surprised. I don’t think that the new episodes hit as hard as the classics in the humour department (there’s some good jokes with the occasional Rodrigo from Instagram), but the storytelling of these latest seasons have really hooked me in. I just watched A Mid-Childhood’s Night Dream and was sucked into the story the whole way through. A Serious Flanders is also phenomenal. I’ve not really seen any of Season 34 outside of Not It due to Disney+ not having it on in the UK yet (I watched AMCND on the fire stick if you’re wondering), but I’ll be waiting. The Vlog episode initially rubbed me the wrong way, but you’ve actually made me pretty hopeful for it. I think that the only thing that really bugs me is how much the intro has been shortened. You’d be surprised to even see a couch gag nowadays. I get that TV airings need to save time, but why can’t Disney+ have the whole shebang? Even if it’s hard to think of more couch gags, why not reuse some like in the classic episodes? It’s a nitpick, sure, but they were always a part of the show’s identity. EDIT: I just watched a good chunk of Season 34 over the past few days and it was really damn good. I feel that they really stepped up their game this season, with more jokes that land, great animation and some really unique stories. And yes, that includes the Vlog episode, which is actually one of my favourites for how unique it was; I don’t even think it’ll become all that dated in the future since this kind of stuff is quite common on KZbin. The Boblox one was also pretty damn good. I also loved The Very Hungry Caterpillars for how it chose to do their own thing with the concept of a lockdown episode rather than just making it a straightforward COVID story. My favourites were easily Lisa the Boy Scout and Treehouse of Horror XXXIII for how creative they were. It feels like the show has broke out of its years of stagnation and is doing fresh stories yet again. Even the worst of the batch of episodes I saw, that being Clown V. Board of Education, was still okay, if a little underwhelming.

Please do Futurama! I'm interested to see how you feel about the multiple cancellations and returns, as well as the newer episodes. It also has quite a few seasons!

Let's say the ratio good/bad episodes is improving a lot. And the highs are big highs imo. Bad episodes are plain, but rarely catastrophic.

Not being completely terrible doesnt mean its suddenly anywhere near the bar it set for itself.

does it need to be? i'm personally happy with the show just being consistently good, it doesn't need to be classic-era good
@Duderocks5539 Жыл бұрын
@@DTheAustralian But at the same time they reference classic era stuff, but also get annoyed when you talk about classic era stuff and say "it's not good anymore". It's like they want you to respect but also not respect the golden age of the show. It's a double-edged sword either way.
@DTheAustralian Жыл бұрын
@@Duderocks5539 it feels more like they want you to respect the golden age without constantly letting it cloud your judgement of new episodes. there’s a difference between “new” and “new & bad”, modern simpsons is hitting the latter far more now

Modern Simpsons must have just one good writer that actually has ideas, but gets drowned out by chants of "IT NEEDS BABY YODA!".

The fact that they did something on Ring, but didnt tackle the actual book. Like the book is insane as hell. But its probably one of the funnest books ive ever read. Definately reccomend reading it. (Author is Koji Suzuki btw)

If you've watched it, I'd recommend a ranking of Phineas and Ferb episodes. I think most of them are fun, with maybe only a few duds here and there.

Never thought I'd see the day where someone would upload something like this. The Simpsons has been going on a downward spiral for a long time now so it's nice to see the show finally do something that gives the viewers hope.

Pixilated and Afraid is the closest Homer and Marge have had if a good relationship for years. There was am episode where Homer plain framed her for DUI. Pixilated and Afraid is great basically

I think American dad ranking video would be interesting to see mainly because i feel like that show has a kinda bad start, which then turned for the better, while having probably the most inconsistent character writing ever. Which works though

I'd love to see an Adventure Time ranking, it's the rare case where a show gets better as it goes along.

Try watching every Bob's burgers episode. Most are really good, it's rarely terrible but when it is.. it's pretty bad. But for the most part it's a pretty funny show with a family that actually loves eachother. Which is so rare in animation nowadays tbh

I was shocked you didn’t mention the Season 34 finale/750th episode of the show. Aside from the intro where they literally fit 750 characters into it, it was a real mixed bag with an okay idea, but weak execution. It’s where Homer gets in a car wreck and is flying out in slow-motion, and he rethinks his life and what Marge did, and it could have been a good character study, but it just missed the mark in my opinion.

I'll die on my hill of "the caterpillar lockdown episode was great". Yes, its a lockdown joke years too late, but it was fun and format breaking and I loved Lisa's struggles with doomscrolling and her comment about sarcastic twitter making memes and conspiracy twitter taking them as reality.

How about an every episode of One Piece 😂? Joking aside, why not do an every episode ranking for a show that you consider an under appreciated gem or something that really isn’t talked much about? Sure, the easy route would be ranking every episode of a highly praised show like Avatar… but it could be fun to see something like a Chowder ranking or something that an American like me has never heard of but might be interested in checking out that had heard a good word about it. Variety & trying new stuff is definitely welcomed in my book.
