I'm gonna be completely honest and maybe it's not something you'd wanna hear but I did feel like the way you approached making this video did impact the quality for me. Just felt a bit more rushed and phoned in at points which I couldn't really ignore. Please do take that as a learning curve to never go nearly that hard on one of these again. Even ignoring the obvious ramifications on your health and sanity, I think it impacts your experiences viewing the show a lot as well which can hurt the integrity of the critiques... which ik might be taking it a bit seriously but I genuinely do like to hear your thoughts but I don't want it to feel forced, I respect the hell outta you for making this and respect that these can take an absurdly long time to make so I feel like people shouldn't complain if you find a less frequent upload schedule for this or whatever suits you better, I think it'd improve the video quality and your general enjoyment making these a lot. Was a fun video though, I respect what you do and look forward to whatever comes next in this series, but uhhh yeah take care of yourself lol

As something I watched over a couple of weeks, yeah I agree. Generally agree with his opinions, season 8 is by far the worst for me but it's a formulaic show where a lot of the appeal for me is the line delivery and the unique vibe that it has. I just don't think I've ever seen something that feels so laid back and "hanging out with the guys" while at the same time also being the complete opposite of that. That formula is something that admittedly does start to get a little tiring by the end, but I also kind of like how it's something that's just a part of the universe and is mainly played pretty straight. It's definitely something that watching in the span of a couple days might exhaust you of its gimmicks, but you know I'd argue that most episodic shows are like that.

I find it funny how Mark ended up disliking alot of the episodes that the fanbase loves (Baby Ducks, most of the space episodes, etc.), and ended up liking alot of the episodes that the fanbase hates (Wall Buddy, Do Me A Solid, alot of the Mordecai x Margaret/CJ episodes). As someone who has loved this show for years, it was really cool seeing this seires from the perspective of someone experiencing (most of it) for the first time. Even if I ended up disagreeing with alot of Mark's takes, lol.

I understand it’s a long video, but I really wish you’d cover some of the more important parts of the episodes, especially ones where they develop characters and show actual emotion. The one that comes to mind is S3 ep: 27, the busted cart episode. Bensons rant near the end where he lectures Mordecai and rigby about responsibility is so good and adds so much depth. Overall great video, just wish some parts were elaborated more or talked about.

1:30:16 I respect that. But I think it was an intentional decision from the writers to make Mordecai and Margaret's relationship very basic. The main reason why it hit so hard for me is because Mordecai clearly doesn't know what he wants to do with his life at this point in the series. I feel like the reason why the show made Margaret a bird in the first place is to point out Mordecai's flaw since he was only seeing Margaret for who she is on the outside instead of who she is on the inside. I feel like Mordecai only liked Margret for the fact that she was nice to him and because she is the same animal as him which is why he finds her attractive, but besides that she's very bland and Mordecai doesn't have a lot in common with her. I think the writers are self aware of this too because Margaret dates like 10 different dudes over the course of the series. Mordecai learns from this by the end of the series by dating people like CJ and that bat he ends up marrying, two people who in my opinion Mordecai vibes with way more from a personality standpoint. (Obviously we don't get to learn about the bat character but Id imagine they get along very well because they both have a passion for art)

In the art book for Margaret’s section it’s stated that Mordecai has never really dated or had a serious relationship so he’s at a point where he’s just trying to get a girl to notice him. This definitely checks out with Mordecai’s arc, and how it’s supposed to show going through the experimentation and messiness of dating in your twenties and how you’re probably not gonna meet your soulmate within the first couple partners you have. I don’t really agree with fans I guess villainizing Margaret for not noticing Mordecai/dating other guys in the meantime like it’s not really her fault he couldn’t make a move plus he’s obvs not entitled to have her

Despite the dark era that was Season 6, I genuinely believe most of Regular Show still holds up, especially Season 7, its genuinely so nice and sweet to see Rigby get his act together and grow as a person, as well as all the dome stuff which I enjoyed. I still also enjoy Season 8 but I can see how you and others got bored by it, the Pops stuff does carry it admittedly. The 3-day straight marathon is extremely commendable, but also kind of a shame, not just cuz it wrecked you but it likely negatively impacted your view of the show the longer it went on, seeing everything back to back for hours on end will make you see repitition and make you HATE it, but I'm glad you still viewed it as an overall jolly good show by the end.

One thing I will always appreciate about the show is Eileen and Rigbies relationship. Not only were they a nice contrast to mordicai and his…everything. But just having a relationship in a cartoon were two people get to know each other, become friends, then start dating without much complications or crashed weddings. Instead, they made each other (mostly if not only rigbie) better people. I just wish more shows did that.

Fun fact about the pilots, after "2 am in pm" J.G Quintel made another pencil sketch short called "The Naive Man From Loliland" which aired on Nicktoons around the time the Adventure Time pilot aired on there too. Pops was featured in the short, but I don't think it was intended as a pitch for the network.

The only time Adventure Time is ever considered a Nicktoon. Plus, that 2007 Adventure Time pilot episode is not available anywhere on digital, streaming, DVD, or Blu-ray releases. This makes me further believe that Nickelodeon still owns rights to the 2007 pilot episode that aired on Nicktoons because after making it become a full show, Cartoon Network has made no attempts to release that episode legally, even on their so-called "complete series" releases.

She didn’t really do a whole lot in the space episodes but I’m glad Eileen at least got more screen time in the final season, she’s one of my top 3 favs from the show, her weird moments from the earlier seasons always get me, and she and Rigby are really cute/I love how she inspired him to better himself both for her but also just for his own sake. The writers even admitted she wasn’t supposed to go to space initially but they felt bad underutilizing her since they all really liked her (fun fact she’s also voiced by one of the storyboard artists Minty Lewis!) I remember my first encounter with regular show. I was sitting in the living room playing with my bakugans, I was probably nine or ten at that point, and I had cartoon Network on in the background when suddenly I heard one of the characters say "You pissed me off" and I had to do a double take. I think looking at Rigby from the angle that he may very well have a learning disability really helps with putting his actions in the larger part of the show into better perspective. Out of my various issues with Regular Show’s final season, my biggest is the fact that they never even take a single moment to address how Skips didn’t know about Pops’s true origins. With how mystical Skips is, and how he’s good friends with basically all of the space deities, it makes basically no sense that he wouldn’t be aware of what Pops was. Looking back it’s really disappointing how CJ and Margaret were treated in terms of writing. Almost every time they show up, they barely go beyond being love interests to Mordecai. I think they each got to be the focus of, like... one episode each? And with them both eventually being written out it just kinda makes it all feel pointless, though I’m glad he didn’t wind up with either of them

Regular Show has a bit of a problem with how it treats its female characters, yeah. Eileen was the only one who really felt like she broke out of the role of "love interest," but even then her character largely revolves around her relationship with Rigby. Also see the number of throwaway female characters who exist solely as love interests, like Celia and Pam.

Unfortunately, it was the worst because Mark tried to do a sleep deprivation run expecting it to be that short and think sleep is for the weak. That had greatly affected his views on the show, but he did admit that the show was consistently good without much of a bad decline.

Let me tell ya, watching Regular show as a kid and having sit through the Modercai romantic subplots was probably the most frustrating thing to experience, and I still ponder to this day was Quintel was thinking when coming up with it .

I actually remember one of the writers (think it was Owen Dennis) saying they didn’t like how kids shows always showed the main character ending up with the first person they fell in love with, when in real life it’s more complicated/it’s not realistic/you might not get closure etc

I think it’s mostly because he watched them all at once instead of over time, he probably got tired of the, admittedly rather formulaic, randomness of the show. I think he would be less critical if he watched it how he was intended to.

I loved the Dome storyline, personally. It was really fun and intriguing and when I first watched the show I was theorizing like a lunatic- PARTICULARLY in the cooking competition episode with a bunch of background details in one shot in Gene's office.

Personally, I am glad that this time Mark is ranking the episodes of a show that had a proper ending this time! Believe it or not, shows that have actual finales are rather rare in the grand scope of it all since a lot of shows get canned before getting that chance. On a side note, I wish JG Quintel's next show, Close Enough, didn't get written off... I say "written off," because as far as I know, you can't watch Close Enough on any streaming service, nor can you digitally purchase it. Pirating it may be the only way to watch it now.

I can agree with you on how if Regular Show's finale was not as amazing and emotional, it definitely would've been seen as a show that started off good but got worse as time went on. I guess that's a big reason why finales in cartoons and movies and so are important: People remember the most about the ending. And Regular Show definitely went out on a bang after having a pretty awesome setup (though yeah, most of the stuff that happens in Season 8 is just filler and nothing more). Either way, great to see another one of these videos! Though after hearing how much pain you were in after you finished binging the show, it serves as good reminder to me to not ever binge a show. Get some rest, Mark; you've earned it. :)

I remember seeing Regular Show for the first time and not only was I unfazed by the hotdogs coming to life and eating each other, but when Mordecai first said "pissed" I was just under the assumption THAT was gonna be Cartoon Network now. As long as you don't use the big curse words you're fine but _pissed_ and _crap_ are on the table. Shame that isn't what happened though.....
