Great job. I am surprised about the EPA issues as the engine must have passed in the original donor car but I guess that is they way of the world. I know the speedo and rev counter gauges were put in by somebody else but they look like after thoughts.
@5lcalais13 жыл бұрын
It's more VicRoads, epa is only an advisory agency to the gov ,they don't have power on their own to do anything but the gov is full of greenie nut cases, Victoria is the worst for it. I've turboed my Commodores original v6 and I still have to go through tight emissions testing even though it'll be cleaner then it ever was in 1989 and it's 1500$ per test and u have to pay it even if u fail , it's rediculas tbh , in Nsw the test is only like 250 and u only have to pay it if u pass , Victoria government doesn't want people modifying their cars. On top it's 1500 for the brake test and 1000 for the engineer , This was a yr ago when I researched what I had to do for mine but it could be higher now...😔
@scod39083 жыл бұрын
@@5lcalais1 NCOP is poorly written and restrictive, half the VASS engineers are dodgy and charge >$1000 for a simple bolt in engine swap and don't even follow the rules anyway. It's a mess; they just try to make it difficult and restrictive so people won't bother.
@5lcalais13 жыл бұрын
@@scod3908 yep exactly right, they don't want us playing with our cars unfortunately which is dumb cause if no-one engineers their cars then engineers will be out of a job 🤨

I would be worried if the LS1 engine went as good as a 253 V8 engine. Just wait until you feel the difference in performance after you get a tune done,it might feel a bit sluggish at the moment because the PCM needs to be tuned for the new exhaust system. The stock 235 kilowatt version of my VY SS Commodore wasn't much to write home 🏡 about but I'm glad that I bought the tuned 276 kilowatt car from a person who lives at Dubbo in central Western New South Wales in 2008,he bought it off a mate of his who lived at The Entrance near Gosford in New South Wales,he said that they told him that the exhaust mods & tuning made it as powerful as the then current 6 litre Chevrolet L76 powered VE Commodore. It's now putting out over 300 flywheel kilowatts after I upgraded that exhaust system & someone tuned it for me in 2019,it tends to get up to 200 km/h a lot quicker now,it runs the T56 Tremec 6 speed manual transmission. The LS1 engine in the LSQ will have about a 300 flywheel kilowatt power output after the car is dyno tuned depending upon the tuner because Holden strangled the LS1 V8 engine at the factory,the engine has more potential than that standard. So you won't be disappointed with the performance increase,mine has done almost 370,000 kilometres & it performs better now than it did when I bought the car with 182,000 kilometres on the odometer in 2008 !

Is it quick? The difference between factory settings and a decent tune and playing with the shift points for the LS1/4L60E combo is chalk and cheese. After you get it sorted it will be very close to or definitely a 12 second car with street gears..........

Yeah engineering is a nightmare in Victoria, to do my turbo v6 vn I'm looking at around 4500-5k ,it's bullshit is what it is. About 1000 for the engineer, about 1500 for the brake test, 1500 for the emissions test (for each test u may have to do, even if u fail the 1st go it's another 1500 for the 2nd test and so on) plus the rego on top , it's honestly obscene what VicRoads/gov require... Anyway I've given up and just putting on h plates and run the risk, I'm building it on a shoe string budget as it, so tired of us enthusiasts being discriminated against. U know if they wanna stop us doing up cars to "save the planet" then they better ban all golf courses, cricket grounds, foot ball etc. cause it destroys acres of nature ,bulldozing bushland to build a golf course is honestly worse for the environment than me doing up my dirty old vn, their double standards drive me up the wall. Thanks for another great episode guys 👌

The silly thing is that half the time the engines being swapped in are more efficient, this is especially true when putting in modern diesels - the old indirect injection ones just vent the PCV to the ground!

Aussie cars of the 70's and 80's: Gear selector on left, indicators (turn signals) on the right. Very rare to find column shift from about the mid 80's other than where a bench seat is fitted in a station wagon or ute.
