LST Deck (Cargo Cover) Struts - Installation

Those were custom built taillight buckets using OEM taillight housings. A SSR owner with a machine shop was making those back in the mid to late 2000s. I started with 50 Pontiac lights in the custom taillight buckets, but the lens (very dark) made the light from the bulb almost impossible to see when the sun was shinning directly on the rear of the SSR. I ended up with 61 Chevy LED taillights. No problem with visibility in any lighting condition. When I sold my SSR, I removed those custom taillights and sold them to a fellow SSR owner in Las Vegas. At one point in time, there were metal taillight buckets being sold for the SSR that would allow you to do something similar, but I haven't seen those for quite some time.

Not a bad idea. The ones I installed in this video already had a small amount of grease present in the ball sockets.

Awesome product and video. I just bought a 2005 SSR with 15K on it, and the seller said you have to stick your fingers in a tight gap to open lid. What??? This kicks ass and wife did not want to do it cause she didnt think she could hold up lid. Took 14 minutes to to do. Thank you.

What is the part # for longer struts?.

I don't have a GM part number for the original longer struts for the redesigned brackets. Simple Engineering sells both lengths of struts. simple-engineering.com/product/body/lst-cargo-cover-support-struts/
