Karmas A Butch I'm sorry you feel this way. I'm a lesbian femme and I'm this way because it's my personality. But everyone around me knows I'm lesbian and no I'm not wrapped in rainbow attire. I have my little flag in the living room, no more than that. But guess what I am also Mexican American and I don't have any of those huge flags outside my house either. I read Portia's book "Unbearable Lightness" a couple of years ago, and it gave me strength. Seeing her succeed as being herself, the happiness of her and Ellen, truly saved me. I don't have the words of how much I appreciate her sharing her story. I'm the happiest I've ever been, since reading her book. I hope this program helps a lot of people. gargouenzene actually I can understand from her mother's point of view why she told Portia to not say anything. At the time she was growing up it was not safe to be homosexual. Her mom might have been worried for her daughters safety. My mom beat me last year and tried to put me in a military boot camp because I'm Gay. So at least her mom didn't do that to her. It breaks my heart to hear how against homosexualty people were back then (and I know alot of people still are). I've never understood it. Why does it matter to other people who we love? This video made me shiver because I'm thinking back to when I was a teenager and found out that Portia had had an eating disorder and was talking about it. It's a very powerful thing to do. It's amazing how it could reach a kid from Sweden. Kids and people all over the world.

Where I live, with the friends and family I have, sticking by veganism is considered just as weird and unliked as being gay or trans or other things. Just in general, a lot of people do not take to it very well, and like to make fun etc. Until recently I never thought of it as "coming out" but as she points out in this video, it kind of has some general commonalities to other kinds of coming out.

🔥WOW! I just stumbled across this video. I’m an Australian lesbian, spent many years in the closet but came out to my family and friends in about 1999. Times thankfully have changed because of people like Ellen and Melissa Etheridge etc. Portia what you have achieved is astounding... be proud of your Aussie upbringing it is what makes us so resilient... I LOVE Portia De Rossi. Not only because she is beautiful, and talented, but I fell in love with her because of her openness and honesty, that helped me get through an extremely difficult time in my life. I read Portia's book, "Unbearable Lightness" a few years ago. Unaware it was going to change my life. It helped me get better. It helped save me. Her honesty, and openness to share her struggles and seeing her triumph and present success and happiness, helped me realize, it does get better. Her openness finally made me feel like I had someone who understood the dark and angry place I was. Since reading her book, I'm the happiest, strongest, and most confident I have ever felt and been. I was an adult and I was lost, and know one could tell. (*tears come streaming down my cheek as I think back...using that when I method act :P ) Now people say "It's all in your head, you always had the strength" or "It's all just small stuff", that is just the worst thing to say, when thinking you are helping. When you are in that moment, It isn't either of that. It takes someone who is going through the same thing as you, who is willing to be open to you about it, be it depression, anxiety, or in my case, confusion, searching for something that wasn't ever meant to be and finding yourself heading in an entirely different direction in your life that you weren't aware was meant for you to go, to help lift you up. Although I don't know Portia (OMG I wish I did), she was the one who gave me strength. To have that courage to walk the other path I didn't know I was meant to go. "It Got Better" I'm so happy and fortunate, the world gave us Portia De Rossi
