Great Story Ray. I hope he is still living. They were from Venice Beach Calif. My daughter lives in Venice and has for 7 years. I can so relate. I use to be a Los Angeles County Emergency Paramedic in the 1970s. My partner and I hit it off and the rest was history. Been married 42 years. We qquit the County and I joined the US Military and became a Combat Pilot x 26 years.

@glenlanding I have a Rhodes bass myself and I run it with my Vox Continental through a huge 300 watt Behringer amp. It gets this real mellow bass sound but with sharp attacks. I love it.

@Hgclaw It's funny you mention that. The sharps and flats on my Italian and US are bright white... the ones I've seen on the UK Continentals are almost always yellow. It's funny how many nuances these vintage instruments have.

@Hgclaw Very good eye. I didn't notice that D trane. Actually I think it's definitely worth pointing out. I think all the hoopla around the Italians having breakable keys really give them a bad name. Personally I actually like a plastic key continental in good shape with good key bushings and no key clack. Wood keys actually have a mushier action to me. Very good point you are making!

That Rhodes bass is a huge sounding piece that my piano rock band would not be able to perform without. Its ran through a SansAmp Pre DI and a compression pedal then thur a custom cabinet with an 18 inch sub and power amp. Shakes the house like no bass guitar could do.
