@@shellbelli-martinez257 Ray was a true intellectual, n as such couldn't really understand Jim Morrison's Wild Streak. That's why Jim so many times took off to party without the doors, answer me this tho. In the scene in the movie which Ray rightly trashes, but the scene at Warhols party in New York. Did Ray really say, come on Jim we're going to get a bite to eat and turn in early? Because I can perfectly understand Jim's incredulous reaction, hey I thought we were a rock and roll band, we're going to get a bite to eat and turn in early? We're in New York City, hanging out with the weirdest people on the planet, and we're going to get a bite to eat and turn in early? ?

Yep, I guess he was the exactly right kind of person for the purpose, & at the beginng, when the age still matters, he was the eldest guy in the band, hence the attitude of the other 3 members, kind of 'big brother' or 'father' figure, but again I'm just guessing.

I mean, I love Jim and the other guys too, but Manzarek was the only one who kept going with his music an legacy until the very late months of his life. And I think if it wasn't for Morrison's death, The Doors would have been played in the 70's, 80's, 90's and 00', like the Stones. Ray deeply wished that.

Yes, it can be criticized for being inaccurate, it was lame and lazy for Stone to not have put more effort in making a factual biography ,by ignoring any input from the Doors and other friends family that were close to Morrison. Yeah, not good and for the most part leaning on journalist small talk. The good thing, it helped revive interest in the Doors. I concur. I consider it a great blessing that I grew up before the advent of the internet and cell phones. The world was so much different then, people were much different, less fake, less petty, more genuine and real....and I'm only talking the 80's and 90's. Quite often I look at the world if the last 20 years in comparison and lament. It's truly sad how the youth culture and society in general has deteriorated and been steered into the direction it's currently in. There is no longer a such thing as counter culture or underground culture aka the current culture. In my opinion this is all by design. Music used to be a very powerful influence on the youth and the powers that be wanted to squash that influence altogether.

Ray, was just as an important component of The Doors, as Jim Morrison, so was Densmore, and Krieger! They were the four sticks, no one was greater than the other, that was the essential engine of The Doors, everyone was special! Long live The Doors!

John Hardesty so u think...but since Morrison passed away, the 3 other Doors could not put one catchy song together. Jim was igniting their abilities when they were playing together, he really had a shamanic presence in the sound they would produce...and they turned to be ordinary musicians when he wasn't there anymore...

Ray is so healthy and strong here. A great man and musician. Truly great. His playing style is virtually impossible to actually duplicate. Same with Robby Krieger. Maybe even more so with Robby. Out of all of their records, there is not a single bad song. Every Doors song is a great song, and every Doors LP is a great album. It's not because of Jim Morrison. It's because these musicians actually developed a style that distinguished their sound amidst one of the most competitive musical eras ever. Just think about how difficult it was to get a record deal and be signed on a major label in the first place. Then consider how difficult it is to write a song(s) great enough to be recognized and respected by your industry peers, not just the teenyboppers of the day. Then consider the difficulty in writing enough great material to formulate a great LP. Then, of course, the difficult competition to have your song reach the number one status on the pop charts in 1967 was an achievement that cannot be underestimated. Robby Krieger wrote Light My Fire but Robby alone would have never been able to get that song to go anywhere. It took the brilliance of the other band members to bring that song to a level that put it where it belonged. People underestimate John Densmore's skills and styles but in reality, there was no other drummer at that time who would have fit as well and offered the kind of complex simplicity that the Doors music is. When we first hear a Doors song, it doesn't really come across as a complex piece of music. The arrangement makes it sound rather simple and traditional. However, the fact is that many of their songs have a very complex musical structure that makes duplicating their sound very difficult. It goes far beyond the vocals of Jim Morrison. I would love to hear a well-practiced professional band with years of experience play the exact same instruments and attempt to duplicate their sound. Just to demonstrate the complex difficulty of it. It would be akin to watching a local building contractor attempt to build a replica of the Great Pyramids Of Giza. When it's all over, everyone is left wondering how they did it.

You gave such an intelligent and terrific interview. You brought out the full wonder that is manzarek and the close-up video of his extremely beautiful face and hair and his beautiful facial expressions was fantastic. It is so close-up you can see his beautiful head ticking. A camera close up on a face is wonderful. Your sort of hard-to-hear and muffled voice holds such intelligence and you had pinpoint accuracy in bringing things out of manzarek. And in your voice you could hear such genuine wonder and innocense and earnestness and delicateness. It is frightening, Oliver Stone. He is a joke. I dont even like talking about him. All i'll say is that i feel like punching him out too. He should be exiled for crimes against art, truth, beauty, and persons living and dead. If only they could take his film director license away forever. Anyway, i am so glad manzarek corrected wrong impressions you and people could have had from the unfortunate film. And yes, if only they could have done an intervention on morrison and he still be alive. I always say please hurt somebody's feelings or have them hate you but please intervene them because it can save their life. I wish this interview was four hours long. Thank you so much for it...it is a great gem...

“I love you” haha. I love Ray Manzarek. If it wasnt for him, the doors wouldnt be alive. He gave jim a chance, believed in him and his writing so much and knew it would work somehow that he didnt care what others thought about them and their weird music, only for it to become the best rock group the universe could ever germinate. Without ray, the doors wouldnt be the doors in all honesty. I always say without any of the doors the doors wouldnt be the doors but man ray and his hands, and his brain, they brought so much beauty into this realm its impossible to recreate. Love you Ray, im so damn sorry i never got to meet you. I wish i can give you a strong hug and thank you for everything. You will live on for eternity. You are the best a human being can get. Long live The Doors 👍🏻

Ray was the best and we miss him dearly. He was also rock's foremost raconteur. Man, could this guy describe a story, a scene, an individual, a history. And as Ray points out, Stone's depiction of The Doors was a travesty, of Jim in particular and the other members in general. Like I said, do we all MISS THIS GUY DEARLY!!!
