Agreed, we’re honored to have them, hope they continue to produce great fruits!

I live on Amelia Island Florida.. I'm growing 15 Fig varieties.. So far the best producer and tasting is the Beer's black fig.

Awesome! What other varieties do well for you?

Man, that fig was huge. I will have to get one of those to add to my collection. Great tips about trying different varieties if you didn't like figs as a kid. I keep telling my kids to try the things that they don't like because one day it is possible you will like them as our tastebuds change. I see you got your own personal film crew now haha.

We definitely need to catchup soon, can probably swap some cuttings with you this winter.

I have LSU Gold in ground and in a pot, but I don't have Beer's Black. Like most figs, it definately less likely to split in ground. Might have to look at that one.

Great info on LSU Gold (we got it from Fig-a-Rama last year). Some say Bb is similar to VdB.

I ordered 4 Celeste trees but I think they sent Beer`s Black. No fruit this year but it has two types of leaves with pink stems and the closest variety they sell that matches the leaves is Beer`s Black. I know these trees aren`t Celeste though. Beer`s Black is a variety of Violette de Bordeaux.

I have room for two more fig trees here in Louisiana...maybe three...but there`s a deal for 4 of these gold trees for about 26 bucks. I got two Brown Turkey & four Celeste planted in the past two years and four Dwarf Everbearing Mulberry. The researchers here say this gold fig and Celeste are more cold hardy than Chicago Hardy. Brown Turkey is a known cold hardy variety too. I`d like to try a berry fig but I have very little space left.

So many options, one bonus for you is being in Louisiana. We’ve greatly increased our new starts and got several at recent fig meetups. Hopefully we can get more in ground and see how they do in ground here in 8a. Please let us know what you decide to add.

@@DeanFamilyAcres I`m getting ripe figs from the Brown Turkey in October. I`ve never seen this before. The figs ripened in summer when I was a kid and pears ripened this time of year. I have unripe mulberries on the trees too.

@@DeanFamilyAcres I`m in lower 8a but they changed it to 8b. So supposedly I`m on the 8b/9a line now but we get down to zero here and single digit temperatures too.

We didn’t have a late frost this past spring and still haven’t had a frost. Definitely odd weather. Actually still picking a few 2nd crop muscadines. Few figs still holding on, maybe they’ll ripen.

@@DeanFamilyAcres I covered my Brown Turkey tree with a tarp before a rain this evening because it has 5 more figs just starting to get ripe and slightly soft. Hopefully they`ll ripen but we have storms on the way and a freeze later this week. I`ve been digging up ground cherries and bringing them inside in pots so I can have winter fruit. I have two very bright grow lights on them and a small fan. I think it will work. I had planned to try cherry tomatoes but the ground cherries produce hundreds of fruits. One plant is too big and loaded with over a hundred fruits but I`m gonna try to get it inside before the 28 degree freeze. I have plenty of winter greens and carrots but I don`t want to give up the fruit this winter.
