Thank you for the great information. I actually grew this tree from cuttings that I got from a friend which did not know its name. Your video helped me identify the tree after long search.

I so appreciate your video. I had no idea what type of tree I have . You are so informative. My figs are producing. Looking at your's, I can see they are not gonna be ready this year, considering I'm in Zone 8a & it's already August. Maybe next year

Beautiful tree! I'm in Zone 9a too in Cypress. I've got several fig trees in containers that are producing and I am rooting MANY more! I am still trying to decide which I want to put in the ground. I have a lot of the LSU varieties and I'm leaning towards some those going in ground this year or next. Did you amend the soil your dug out when you planted this tree? I have to dig through so much clay and compacted material from when the subdivision I live was built that it is hard to get some trees going. Do you have any other fig trees?

Thanks, Scott. No soil amendment at planting so roots get used to growing in clay. I also have Smith and Little Ruby figs in the ground and 3 more varieties rooting that are ready for planting. Go luck with your trees.

My tree is getting large and if I do not prune in the early spring it will soon be over my patio. I have watched a few videos on pruning large branches in the middle to open up the middle of the tree to provide more sun and help provide more of a lateral growth. The main trunk is about 14" high and about 5" wide and the branches off the trunk are about 2-3 " wide. Will pruning the long branches low closer to the trunk harm the tree? I usually prune after the final frost when the leaves start to bloom. Thanks, Ben

@@benstonecipher6593 Ben, you can prune side branches after harvest in the summer to control height. Then do detail pruning in the winter before bud break and open center on the main trunk. Take care.

@@fairfieldgarden7484 Thanks so much for your response. I plan to cut the long branches in the middle after the last frost. I want the long side branches to stay and grow sideways. Some are already about 6-7 ft and horizontal to the ground. Should I prune the small branches off of the large horizontal branch growing up or down. Does it matter. I also have branches growing towards the ground. Should I prune those or let them grow? Thanks so much for your input!

@@benstonecipher6593 Ben, are you pruning to an espalier form with additional support for the long branches? I cut back or off downward branches because they eventually will try to grow upward and crisscross with other branches. You can always experiment with it. In my video, I showed how the tree had a large trunk detached from the main truck from storm impact. Keep your natural elements in mind. Hurricane Beryl didn’t damage my fig tree at all this time since I keep the main trunk and limps short.

Do you have the cutting for sale? Thanks
@fairfieldgarden74843 жыл бұрын
Sorry George, I don't. Check local specialty nurseries. I got mine at the Fort Bend County Master Gardener annual fruit tree sale. If you are in Houston, Enchanted Garden, Enchanted Forest, Caldwell Nurseries may still have them.
