i got a question: didnt the holders knee touch the ground while he had the ball? wouldnt that be the end of run (by ncaa rules) unless they attempt the field goal? im not sure on the rules, thankful for any advice.

There's a "technical loophole" in the NCAA rulebook that allows this exact play to happen. ARTICLE 3. A live ball becomes dead and an official shall sound his whistle or declare it dead: [...] b. When any part of the ball carrier’s body, except his hand or foot, touches the ground or when the ball carrier is tackled or otherwise falls and loses possession of the ball as he contacts the ground with any part of his body, except his hand or foot [Exception: The ball remains alive when an offensive player has simulated a kick or at the snap is in position to kick the ball held for a place kick by a teammate. The ball may be kicked, passed or advanced by rule]

I just had a revelation, if a team ever needs a replacement runningback, they just need to call up one of those cameramen from the show cops. The cameramen who often outrun both the trained police officers, and the criminals they film. You'll know what I mean if you've ever payed attention to the fact the suspects are in sight more often than the cops after the chase starts.

You are allowed to have your knee down on a fake field goal in this situation to show the fake. That's the ONLY time a person can have their knee down on the ground. However, it's different, but the same rule applies. Holder can have his knee down to show a fake, then he can get up and run, or do like he did here, lateral over his shoulder. Which btw, this was a nice call.

@1337Vivian Mostly cuz trick plays are risky, and with College ball getting as money oriented as NFL, mistakes become very expensive, and coaches generally like their jobs. Every once in a while they pay off though.

wrong, the officials blew this because the holder has to lift his knee off the ground when he releases the ball. He can get up and run, or lift his knee off the ground and flip the ball, but not flip the ball on his knees

Look at his stats before he kicks it it says he only attempted one field goal and missed it and he missed 42 total so he has faked 43 field goals isn't that suspicious

That was the same play they used against Florida in 2010, when everyone thought they were going to kick a game tying field goal towards the end of the game. They did that same fake FG to get a first down, and then got the game winning TD a few plays later.
