I just wanted to say that I really appreciate that draft titles and thumbnails make it clear what was drafted to some extent while not giving away everything. It makes it easy to go back and find a video if you want to show it to someone while not ruining the drafting experience. Bonus points of course are awarded for the puns.

Yes! I would also mention, that I personally REALLY appreciate these titles not falling into the nasty clickbait tendency that swarms youtube in general. I love LSVs content and I will continue to support it for many reasons like this.

I feel like Traverse the Ulvenwald would be a great addition to the cube. It fixes mana as a floor, and gives green a land or creature tutor for things like valakut dryad combo, stage / depths hexmage, and ramunap/ strip shenanigans. kind of a better crop rotation, and when you get both, can make the land combos really consistent and busted.

How is traverse better? It's sorcery speed, doesn't sac and doesn't put a land on the battlefield. It can be a good creature tutor, if you can enable delirium, but that's about it. Totally different cards imo

The last game I think you would have won if you waited to play vendilion clique until end of turn instead of upkeep. The reason being that if he attacks with just one of his fliers, you could sneak it in EoT and kill him with the 3 power flier after killing any blocker with prismari. Playing it upkeep does disrupt his turn, but it also lets him play perfectly on next turns blocks knowing your suprise threat. Especially since he has a hell rider and can’t block your only creature with his fliers anyway, he almost definitely would have attacked with both fliers if not one. Either way u would have won.

1:41 You will never convince me retro is in the same league as mind twist. I watch an incredible amount of cube between LSV, and Jenara, and now Paul and I am rarely impressed by Retro. The cards upside is just not as high as advertised IMHO where as twist wins games with it's upside. The floor on retro is much higher obviously because the floor on twist is a complete blank. But the floor on retro often might as well be a blank. I'm a real retro doubter, I've seen the card in action a ton and there have been times where I've had to go back and edit a previous comment saying I was wrong and it performed better than I expected it would, but those are way less than the times it does nothing.

Picking up the WoF over Time Warp/Spirebluff/Abrade and picking Narset over the triome that hit all three of your color-intensive deck immediately sounded alarm bells. I feel like with solid ramp and bombs (initiative creatures + Minsc), the only bottleneck is going to be if you color-screw yourself. EDIT: WoF was useless, you cut the Uro and Cryptic for color requirements, and Narset actively hurt you. Rough draft regardless. Your opponents had 70% draws while you drew 30%.
@brianh584410 ай бұрын
I agree, I thought not playing Uro and taking WoF were suboptimal choices. I've noticed from watching dozens of LSV cube drafts that he does seem to have certain cards and strategies that he enjoys so much, that sometimes he tries to shoehorn them in where they don't synergize with the archetype he's in. In other words, at times, he goes for the fun pick that isn't necessarily the right pick. There's actually nothing wrong with doing that, Magic is meant to be fun, but sometimes I'm not sure he realizes that's what he's doing :). I'll add my necessary disclaimer that LSV is an incredible Magic player that I will never match, let alone surpass. I just think when you watch someone's play for a while you can get a unique perspective that they might not see themselves. I certainly don't comment from a place of superiority or negativity.

@@brianh5844 I forgot to add my usual caveat that I have literally zero experience with cube, much less team cube. All my knowledge comes from LSV and Marshall from LR - I'm still baffled at the speed at which LSV processes things in-game (playing around certain spells, combat math, unusual methods of finding lethal or optimal timings for spells).

I think in the vet last game a bit of math would have been good. Why take anything from their hand? Even if he plays both of them and attacks you are still fine here, right? Hellrider triggers put you to 8 all of the attacking creatures have 8 power combined after luminarch, so just blocking one of them is sufficient to survive. Or am I missing something here?
@BigCheeseNaan10 ай бұрын
It's not about not losing the game on that turn since LSV doesn't have lethal, it's about making the blocks worse for the opponent. Removing the luminarch at least forces a chump block on the raging ravine or the questing beast
@xcver10 ай бұрын

I don't get the Retrofitter Foundry pick here. LSV correctly pointed out that it helps win the long game with its constant value generation, but he's also repeatedly said the cube has gotten so much faster that 5 or 6 drops are often not good to put in your deck, especially without ramping. To me it just looks too slow if there's no strong synergy to go with it (e.g., Urza's Saga) or piles of mana to really make it go off (e.g., Tolarian Academy or even Gaea's Cradle).
@TIMESLOST10 ай бұрын
1. foundry isn't a 5 or 6 drop 2. considering he started the draft with a blue and green card, he could conceivably end up with either cradle or academy 3. even if the pick is incorrect, pro players don't have to make the correct pick 100% of the time and it's annoying to comment on videos trying to correct people's picks
@brianh584410 ай бұрын
@@TIMESLOST As someone that likes to comment on picks, what's the issue? I like watching these videos in part because I like to geek out on watching Magic to try to improve. If I take the content in entirely passively without also thinking for myself, that doesn't really help me improve. Whereas if I look out for things I might do differently and voice my thought process, other people can respond to either agree or point out a flaw in my reasoning. These are productive conversations IMO and I doubt LSV is offended by them.

I don't get the Llanowar Elves pick over Sakura-Tribe Elder. Sure, ramping from 1 to 3 is better in most circumstances, but LSV is building a 3-colour deck and his mightiest plays are at 4 mana. The fixing is what made STE seem like a better pick there. M1G1 would have gone a lot better with STE... just sayin'
@piercearora768110 ай бұрын
The elf is so much better when you're ramping into 3-drops, Elf into Broadside or Uro is nuts, and STE doesn't facilitate that.
@TIMESLOST10 ай бұрын
tribe elder doesn't get you to 4 mana any faster than elf does, plus the mana in the deck is so good that it doesn't really matter that elf only taps for green. elf is better in the deck in almost every way imaginable. also, saying "X card would have been better in this game" is a horrible mindset that will only make you a worse player in the long run
@DrMonty-ng5fo10 ай бұрын
Just look at how good his fixing ended up being. Fixing usually isn't a problem in vintage cube. Llanowar elf is half the mana of Sakura-tribe, I think the play made perfect sense. Edit: Also, sakura-tribe doesn't make his 4-drops come out any faster.
@georgesprat969710 ай бұрын
@@TIMESLOST Disagree. Fixing matters, and the mana wasn't "so good that it doesn't really matter". You're also overlooking that STE gets you a land, which means it ramps you even if your opponent has removal. In most cases I'd prefer elf, but this was one time where I thought STE was the better choice.
@georgesprat969710 ай бұрын
@@DrMonty-ng5fo LSV often drafts greedy decks where he doesn't get enough fixing and ends up paying for it. So yeah, fixing is still a concern in Vintage cube. It's not like everyone can smoothly run 5-colour decks at will.
