On these engines, make sure to check the rear of the intake manifold where it meets the block, just below the oil pressure sending unit , to see if it's leaking there as well. They ALL leak from that valley unless it's already been re-done. Check the top of the bell housing. If it's wet, that may be your suspect and the oil is just running down. In my experience, it usually is. If so, make sure you use Permatex "Right Stuff" gasket maker or you'll be doing it again. 😉96 SS owner since 2000, and I don't recall ever changing my rear main seal. Good luck.

I watched the whole thing with no clue how to work on cars! 😂 but I definitely learned some new things.

I appreciate the support! Now if you ever find yourself in an oil leak situation you can ask “hey did you check the oil cooler lines?” 😂😂

Thanks OTG, I’m having the same issue with my 96 caprice LT1 and I was worried but now ik what to do, thank you 👍🏿💪🏿💯

Great job explaining how easy the process is. Can you show the trans cooler lines being replaced. Mine also leak
@BuiltbytheRays Жыл бұрын

Would appreciate it. I have that square box near the trans and not sure how to get around it. Keep pushing the content. Very helpful.

On those oil cooler lines, the replacements may leak soon too. I just cut the crimps with a Dremel, replace the rubber with new, and use good hose clamps. Works on the transmission cooler lines too. Where they go into the radiator, you can use copper washers from Fleet Pride or a hose store to easily stop leaks.

I hate How these LT1 Leak!! Oil cooling lines...oil pressure sensors..shit u name it... I've owned over 10 Lt1's, Camaro's , Firebird's,9C1's etc & problem 2 Didn't Leak.....Dealing with leaks now on my 96 Roadmaster....I Might Sale it! I Love these Cars,But I Hate the Leaks .....✍🏿

These cars are almost 30 years old. If the parts are all original, then they are going to have issues. There isn't a small block Chevy that was actually driven that didn't leak. The technology, clearances and materials just were what they were.

Be aware, the Sunsong oil cooler lines aren't properly clearanced for the center stud; you'll need to drill it out to make room; some of the newer Dorman stock may have the same problem. Always make sure the aluminum block bolts tightly to the oil filter adapter without excessive fastener torque.

Easier fix is to buy the AC Delco lines. They cost a little more but no cutting of the gasket and fits right on like the it's fresh off the assembly line

I need help I jus gt a 95 caprice an I have a oil leak I can’t find the front passenger side is wet and the whole bottom is wet as well where should look first ?? 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

The first mod I do to all my LT1s is delete the stupid oil cooler lines. Better oil pressure, less leaks.
@brandonrussell19172 ай бұрын
How do I do that lol
@joelbanyai8224 Жыл бұрын
FYI I have a base 95 Caprice wagon and a 96 Roadmaster wagon limited non tow-pack; both LT1s, neither had oil coolers from the factory. Look for "327" on the side of the block and it's a 5.7L. Rear leaks are usually intake manifold gaskets.

Oil filter adapter also leaks on these lt1s sheesh drip drip here and a drip drip there
