I've owned Normandy '44 for 25 years, and I still regularly play it. The largest scenario can take months to finish. There many smaller scenarios included, covering all of the forces involved. All of the WDS titles are worth a look. I think that their summer sale is coming soon.

As ever … well thought out and timed… a nice way to meld modern technology and gaming with respect and consideration for the past … nicely done

Steel Division 44' is a great game. Highly recommended, although not many people playing people anymore. It was a blast back when it was released.

Long live Combat Mission! Also Classified: France '44 is a GREAT callout. That's a fantastic game and with some more funding from it, the devs are good enough that I bet their next game will be something very serious to pay attention to.

i would add Gates of hell with Liberation DLC

WDS look pretty intimidating with all of the icons spread across the top of the screen, but they really aren't even necessary. That is just one of three ways the games can be played. i only use about 3 or 4 of them. They can be played using the drop down menus and by hotkeys. Yes they are hardcore, but only in the sense of number of units, incredibly massive maps and number of scenarios along with the number of tactical and strategic options. I am doing Scott's capture of Mexico City right now and I think the scenario is 320 ten-minute game turns with hundreds of regimental size units and artillery pieces! I'm playing it PBEM (play by e-mail) right now with a person in Scotland!! We have completed about a dozen turns and should finish it next Spring. I have set up the WDS Normandy game and it is massive and also tactical on an incredibly enormous map showing all five beaches! i think it is a few hundred game turns. Just the thing for old wargaming geasers sitting around in rest homes. I love hex and counter turn-based wargames and have been wargaming since 1958. Very good video! I may pick up one of those shooters just to have one to monkey around with.

It offers the possibility of landing elsewhere on the Continent. I prefer to target Brittany, annd avoid the hellish Normandy terrain.

@@davidbarlow6551 Given the history, all the Allies did by way of misinformation, fake landing spots etc, I like the realism of doing it the way it was done, or as near as. You get a sense of the bravery and sacrifice and just plain grit of it all. Taking Caen, the bocage. It's such an incredible feat by so many, so young.

one particular good game about the landings is "Officers" (a most likely lost media game). BTW the first level its the landing and you have to take to carpiquet eaven so its a pretty long map. Some info about the game (Officers is a World War II real time strategy game developed by 3A Games and published by Tri Synergy. It was released on 28 November 2008 in Japan, 29 May 2009 in Europe and released in the USA on 14 July 2009 for Windows. Officers is set in World War II and it allows players to take control of Allied forces which consist of US and British Armies in a fight for control over Western Europe against Germany. The game's maps can support up to 1500 units on each map and the map size can be anything up to 10 square miles (26 km2). The game has over 50 units and it lets players use real military formation tactics with units. Furthermore, the game also contains a map editor which allows players to create custom scenarios. )

The Troop is a surprisingly good game. I hope it has a lot of countries in its DLC. Of course Combat Mission is always great. Try to get it when it goes on sale and its not so bad.

Classified reminds me of an older game I loved and used to play a lot. Alas, embarrassingly, I forgot the name, but perhaps it was something like Hammer and Sickle. Anyway, great suggestions!
@waronducks31716 ай бұрын
You mean Silent Storm and the addon Silent Storm: Sentinels? The game plays in WW2, while the 3rd game Hammer & Sickle has a cold war setting.

Can someone explain to me (PLEASE!) how to get Combat Mission: Beyond Normandy graphics upgraded AND avoid the horrible game lag from scrolling the screen? Seriously: the base game is unplayable on modern machines because it's using old code for graphics.
