In this video, I compare the simulation speed between TopSPICE Version 10 and LTSPICE. I simulate a Royer supply and made duplicate models in both simulators. I then performed a transient response analysis. TopSPICE V10 seems to be faster than LTSPICE. I then compared the FRA capabilities of both simulators. TopSPICE's FRA seems to be much faster than LTPSPICE's FRA. Questions and comments can be sent to rbola35618@aol.com. Please subscribe, thumbs up and share.

Robert hi! Nice video. I dealt with this issue a little and came to the conclusion that LTspice is the slowest simulator. This issue has been studied by others. If you want, I can send you a table in comparison with other simulators. For example MicroCap is on average 5 times faster. As I understand it, the problem lies in outdated and slow mathematical calculation algorithms, ltspice does not know how to use mathematical blocks well in new processors.

Greeat comparision between the two software. LT Spice is free and still offer FRA analysis. Hardly can hear your voice. Thanks

Just remember, Topspice FRA is much faster than LTSPICE.

@@RobertBolanos Totally agreed. TopSpice has so many features and for a fraction of cost compare to Cadence Pspice

That's a very useful comparison. Did you set all of the SPICE options to the same values on both simulators?

Yes, I tried to make all the spice parameter the same. The reason TopSPICE is faster when it come to the FRA, I worked to the developer in doing an algorithm to where the first simulation or frequency sweep takes the longest and the simulation time has to long enough for the circuit to come to steady state (SS). I asked that that once the circuit is at steady state, to save all the nodes and component current anc voltage and use those SS values at the start of all subsequency frequency sweep. This means that the rest of the simulation start at SS time and not from 0. This saves alot of time. I hope it make sense. Robert

Yes makes sense and the best way to implement the algorithm.

I've been using microcap, I gotta say I like it very much. how do the component libraries between topsice and microcap compare?. as is. I like microcap way more than LTspice unless its a circuit that has Analog Devices components that are only available and encrypted in ltspice. the only thing I dislike about microcap is that power sources are not very intuitive to implement. or at least i havent found a good way to do things like drag and drop point voltages to power an op amp for example. topspice looks very good too. but I think microcap looks more intuitive. topspice to me looks like a better version of LTspice basically, requires some more manual work than microcap.

Microcap12 is my second simulator that I use. It ishowver, my first simulator when it comes to WCCA. Doing a WCCA on Microcap12 is very easy and intuitive. I agree that I think it is better and easier to use than LTSPICE. Robert

@@RobertBolanos do you have microcap tutorial ? Am struggling to run TL494 in microcap-12. It doesn't show any waveform
