So i just rebuilt my 04 ltz400 and im hearing the same noise from the top end is that normal?

Hey how many washers did u have on that shaft the one that the starter drives the one way bearing

There are 2 sets of gears large gear that the starter drive touches and a small set between starter clutch and starter drive. Both have 2 washers one on each end of assemblies.

@@RCBGarage See that’s weird cause mine only has one and so I found another one and it didn’t make a difference in the problem I have with it When starting if the idle adj is to much or if the choke is pulled the machine will like (whine) like not turn over but push the choke in and turn the idle down a little bit and it will fire right up it’s the weirdest thing and even harder to try to explain to someone one time I got a question in on the Partzilla guy Talley he does live show and I don’t think he knew so he said something about one of those shafts being bent but I’m just wondering thanks again

@@keithparady2594 Did you check the one way starter clutch? Adding more fuel will raise compression and might be making it slip.

@@RCBGarage yeah I thought it might be that so I changed it and no difference then I put the old one back in and did the same so I do some more research and look at the kfx book and it shows one on both sides just like the starter microfiche they are the same machine and all the parts are interchangeable I’m just stumped. Thanks again

@@keithparady2594 The choke and idle screw should have zero effect on the starter. Have you tired replacing the starter?

How much did this rebuild cost the customer? I'm looking to get mine fixed.

If you do the work yourself I would plan on $800-$1000 for parts if you need new cases. A shop would charge $100 an hour and it’s an 8-10 hour job to do it right. Hope that’s helpful for you.
