I really don't like all the visual noise during the combat. It feels like I'm trying to look through a neon sign just to see the game. At least it goes away when youre not fighting. The hair physics are really cool, though.

@@AlaastChen I don't necessarily mind the health bar or the numbers, though i personally don't really like that much, but i don't need flashing lines anytime an arrow crosses my screen. That's what i am hoping is also part of that. It makes sense for certain things, such as aoe attacks (which do look nice in this) but it's overkill. I'm sure a lot of that stuff is to help the game be accessible to certain players who have specific needs, but for me, it actively prevents me from understanding what I am looking at.

Interesting that they incorporated one of their early Inquisition concept art designs for Solas. He had that exact hairstyle (among other, much more horrific ones LOL). Doesn't quite hit right without the dark skin he had in those sketches though... 😂

Glad to see all the first impression videos dropping today, always nice to get a diversity of opinion on controversial games. So far I'm cautiously optimistic. I know a lot of folks are disappointed at the lack of strategic combat, but that's where the series has been heading since the second game. The more strategic ones seem to be more of a niche audience, so it's harder to find those in the triple A space anymore. You'll still see it in smaller games; Obsidian still does them a lot, for example. Dragon Age has always been in a weird place. At least the gameplay looks solid and the story seems decent by all accounts. The art style is the only thing I'm meh about at this point, but eh, at least it's consistent and the environments look *really* good.

The strategic combat is why I PLAYED this series. It's removal means I have no interest in continuing with this series. I couldn't stand to play Inquisition more than once just for the story.. I play through DAO a dozen times, same for DA2.

Strategic Combat is not niche as proven by BG3 and Dragon Age has been following the wrong trends since the second game. They should have stuck to their roots.

@@teyrncousland7152 DAO actually failed financially with only 2.8M copies sold, which is why devs went looking for solutions. They were told slow combat was the problem which is why they made combat super fast in DA2. Inquisition was obviously inspired from open world success of games like Skyrim. DA4 is inspired from GoW and Final Fantasy. reason they chase trends because their original work (DAO) was a financial failure despite being an artistic masterpiece. Even Swen didn't expect BG3 to be that successful but remember despite BG3 being GOTY it still couldn't beat an above average game like Hogwart's Legacy in sales.

The artstyle doesn’t look bad it’s just different, the combat doesn’t look bad it’s just different, the story we can’t make a real conclusion because the game hasn’t come out but personally I think it looks good based on the little they have shown. All that matters to me is that I have fun I’m not caught up on the little details. To me simply being in the world of Thedas and being with familiar characters and races makes the game dragon age and I’m willing to keep an open mind over the changes they made.

one nice thing for those of us who feel like the game is too bright and don't like the bright purples and greens - ReShade works with ANY game and allows you a lot of freedom basically putting "filters" over the super brightness. i do really love the hair!! i think i'll just be big on, like, head mods, esp. It looks AMAZING to me. I absolutely can't wait. The only thing I really, really don't like is the weird Qunari forehead, but hopefully I can fix that with mods or carefully placed bangs. There needs to be more horn texture on the forehead, because as it is, it looks like a weird skin mask is stretched flat over the horns. It looks strange.

Is positioning important? Things like holding chokepoints, difficult terrain, making enemies walk through fire or electrified water, fighting from high ground... A lot of footage I've seen is just running up to the enemies and start blasting, but I don't know if that's because of the player or the game.

Thank you for the video. I do not really care for the color palette, and yeah, the screen seems very crowded. Reminds me of a JRPG, honestly. But I am happy to see the "Spell Blade" class for mages- I am a big fan of arcane warriors and knight enchanters, so another melee mage option is great. And I saw some other things I like, so keeping my fingers crossed. Certainly seems better than Andromeda.

always loved the apply-detonate mechanic from Mass Effect. I think I'll like this game. I normally play mage first and then rogue on the highest difficulty. What you said about Elite enemies being tanky is interesting. Normally BioWare has mechanics to weaken armored targets, so how combat will feel as you progress. Great review Lua thank you

Still on the fence about this one. Im a sucker for a robust character creator. But also as someone who has played since origins, the art style is REALLY not doing it for me. If this were a separate ip I think I would be much more open to it I think. But as a Dragon age game im definitely going to need to warm up to the new style if I get it. The general criticism that the combat looks like its from a mobile game looks correct. I dont hate mobile games necessarily, but I still feel like that's a mark against this game. Also, not to get political, but when the director comes out with statements like this game is "inherently queer" and a place for "the marginalized communities to have representation where we feel proud and powerful in how we are depicted.” It's a bit of a red flag in how this story may have been written and how interactions with your party members will be like. Will this game focus much more on the fantasy and the world setting? Or will there be a bunch of immersion breaking moments due to someone's political views finding their way into the final product? If its anything like baldurs gate 3, I'm not worried. But I will be waiting to see before I decide to purchase.

I've asked this before and I'll ask again: Who is Rook to think they'll be the one to convince Solas? This should've been Inky's story because they were the one who showed Solas they were the exception. To Solas, Rook is no different than any other grunt working for/with the Inquisition, or what's left of it, so why is he paying special attention to this nobody? If there was one thing I wished they took from Mass Effect, it would've been the continuous protagonist. And no, Inky missing an arm is not an excuse. Dwarven/Rune magic mechanical arm from Dagna or regenerative magic to regrow limbs or sumthin. Even the Epilogue for Trespasser shows that Inky has a crossbow for their left arm if you choose to swing rooftops with Sera.

Which is really fucking sad, because I have been waiting on the contnuation of the story Inquisition left us with. My problem with Inquisition is half the time I didn’t know what I was doing because there were so many quests and it took forever to get to them and there would be random bosses on the way that it would drag you into your fighting stance and your party would get completely nuked by the boss

I am kinda OK with not controlling companions directly. ME2 worked that way aswell, and it was actually very smooth, especially for combos, as you could just slot your companions basically as extra abilities and when you pressed their ability it was usually instant, making combos feel very fast, fluid and gratifying, where in older DA games it was usually quite clunky (as you had to switch, orient yourself, wait to complete its current action or even get in range to fire off the ability you wanted).

Hi Lua! I just hope my character can smile if I do chose to play the game. I couldn't get my character to smile that much while playing DAI.

Lu, how do you feel about the fact that the world states dont carry over, that it only choices that do is if you disbanded the inquisition, and did you romance solas or not?
