Coming home to Ireland from Manchester U.K. (where we have the Metrolink trams) I’m most impressed by the LUAS trams in Dublin, but the only problem I have with them is that they don’t have a LUAS line all the way down to the Irish Ferries & Stena Terminals at Dublin Port (when I come home on SailRail via Holyhead) via Dublin Docklands Rail Station (for the M3 Parkway & Navan line) - I’ve written to LUAS and Transport for Ireland about this, so hopefully something will happen soon

I’ve been speaking with the company and the department of transport about new Luas lines that could be added.

@@Aviationvladone is definitely needed all the way down to the Irish Ferries & Stena Terminals at Dublin Port, via Dublin Docklands Rail Station - most foot passengers arriving off the ferries from Holyhead on SailRail have lots of heavy luggage, so this would be ideal, either with double or high frequency trams to meet ferry arrivals and for ferry check in times - I’m hoping that with the Irish governments plans for rail investment, having a LUAS Extension to the Port will be a priority

1:25 The LUAS in Dublin is a most civilised way to get around Dublin, is the best part of coming home to Ireland on visits and I love the fact that onboard tram announcements are in my native Irish Gaelic language, as well as in English - the design of the trams themselves is iconic and classy - it’s just a pity that there are so few tramlines around Dublin and I would love to see them replacing many Dublin Bus routes

I was thinking the same thing TBH - Dublin definitely needs more of high-capacity urban rail lines (ideally, to be separated from other traffic). Traffic congestion in Dublin on weekend (not even on a workday) were like crazy...

@@Aviationvladthe Green Line in particular needs grade segregation between Broadstone and Charlemount - this city centre segment has overly long trams snaking around tight corners at walking pace. With the rest of line following an old railway line, a city centre tunnel would make the Green Line at effectively premetro grade and facilitate upgrade to an actual metro Similarly, a tunnel between Connolly to at least Heuston but ideally James’ would dramatically improve the service of the Red Line
