As a zx6r owner, I have to say that it is a pain in the butt to get the adjusters off the cable housing. I almost completely mutilated the slots as well as my fingers trying to get them off before giving up. So I went to the plastic fittings with cut away tubing and just drowned them while they were elevated. I am now a firm believer that Kawasaki does make the simplest tasks ridiculously difficult.

I was thinking to buy a new cable because it stucked over the winter. Now i see the luber, a nice handy tool. Will try this first. You got me to the next level on motorcycle maintenance procedures! Thanks a lot mate!

@MrSikwithit Actually my fault, I sorta didn't explain that in detail. You see up the throttle cable there are 2 plastic things that you can spin. Just look at where the position of the knobs are. These knobs can lengthen or shorten the length of the outer cable to provide enough throttle slack. Too tight and you can have a high idle, too loose and you won't reach WOT. The user manual should explain this a bit better.

No need to degrease. The new lube going in will push the old stuff out. Thanks!

@WildBill1006 Yep, my goal is to get it out on Thursday. Hoping to do a highway run though cuz I need to re-calibrate my speedometer.

@MetalPlatedHand Thx bud. I find traffic is never ready for motorcycles. Gotta keep alert. =)

Excellent tutorial, especially when you mentioned to mark the cable adjuster. Otherwise, my dumb ass would misadjust the throttle cable.

@DrifterErik I normally do the clutch around 5000kms. The throttle at around 10,000kms.

@DarkFlight600 Yea, you probably don't have to do it for a while. Mine was still smooth, but not as smooth as I liked it. My bike is at around 55,000 kms.

be extra cautious when ryding tomorrow, the traffic is not used to seeing motorcycles on the road just yet. Have a safe ryde, u might see me flying by :D

how often should you lube the clutch and throttle?

I had this problem before, I open my throttle handle bar side and put a 2 stroke oil on it, my bike was a four stroke machine

when you said before loosening the adjusters to mark where they were. What does that mean specifically. Sorry if this is a dumb question just never done this work before.

let me guess are you planning on getting the bike out this Thursday. I know the weather in TO is suppose to be around 11 - 13 degrees. I know I am even if it is only to go around the block

Just curious is this tool essential? I'm just thinking why couldn't we pub with fingers? Or just spray the cables carefully? I'm just trying to establish why the tool would be best (not doubting) thanks

Question, do I need to take the cable off at the motor end as well, or just at the throttle assembly on the handle bars?
