We used to use silicone spray on zippers, back when I worked at a factory that sewed up packs and other fabric things. FYI, those really big zippers are called #10 molded-tooth Delrin (nylon) zippers. The smaller ones are nylon chain zippers. And I think silicone spray is what North Face used to recommend years ago for their tent zippers, back when they were in Berkeley, CA. If you use the straw end on the can's nozzle and press lightly, you can minimize the overspray. I can't say how long silicone spray actually lasts, so you might want to re-lube a couple of times per year.

I would never use cooking oil. I agree with the notion of using silicone lubricant or wax though!

You will also attract Bears. Why not just use "Snap & Zipper Lubricant", that's why it is made. Chap Stick is better used to help make/start camp fires. Thanks for Sharing.

Spray silicone on zippers to lubricant, the over-spray will protect the fabric.

OK, so I have never seen this channel before, and it came up on my feed, the first thing I get asked is to like comment and subscribe? So, I don't know if I like it because I haven't watched it yet, I am not going to share it because I don't know what the contents are, and I ain't going to subscribe because I don't like getting told what to do. Why not put it at the end, the people who make it that far would most probably have a fair chance at doing it. Remember to respect my opinion like you say :)

What about petroleum jelly (vaseline)?
@fellspoint936410 ай бұрын
It’s the best thing to have with you. Lubricant, fire fuel, skin balm etc.
@MikulesOutdoors10 ай бұрын
It will work. Use it sparingly. However it is messy and will soak into the fabric and weaken the material over time. When the temps are hot the Vaseline (Petroleum Jelly) will run run run and run some more...... but it will work. Thanks for your comment.

Bar of soap across the zipper. Doesn’t attract dust and debris. Trick we teach in the army. Along with powdering your rubberized poncho or tarps before rolling.

Silicone Sprat onto a flat surface and then wipe it on the zippers with a cotton ball or such. Also. bees wax applied is nice.

Why? For soundproofing?
@MikulesOutdoors10 ай бұрын
Lube is for ease of operation of the zipper - only. For absolute sound proofing, it would be "Mission Equipment" and just a single button loop for needs only and for a very short strike and completion of task. No need for a lot of equipment or even zippers.....

I'll save the olive oil for my salad dressing. Silicon spray or a paraffin stick (aka, a candle)
@MikulesOutdoors9 ай бұрын
Olive Oil is indeed a good oil! Multi-uses. I have found that for the most part, the silicon spray works about the best. Thank you for your comment.

Okay, so it looks like you have some kind of lion as your profile picture and you're trying to convince people to lubricate their backwoods gear with very fragrant EVOO. Exactly which team are you batting for? I'm personally down with the lions, but as a dog, I lubricate everything with Lil Debbies.
