Granite Gear Chief Patrol Pack
Where to Find Them : Likely best source is eBay
Price : Retail was around $650, I purchased mine from eBay for $130 plus shipping. Most for sale on eBay for around $220 but it can be found higher and also lower
Availability : Limited but there is a good handful of packs still for sale on eBay
Weight : right at 7lbs
Adaptable Torso : The CHIEF framesheet has fine adjustment settings spaced in one inch increments to further fine-tune your fit. Regular Torso Fits 16" to 22" The bottom hole is 16" torso, the top hole is 22" torso.
Materials : NIR SOLUTION-DYED FABRIC - Both the base fabric (500d), and webbing (1000d) consist of solution-dyed nylon (SDN) CORDURA® fabrics that provide maximum Near Infra-red (NIR) signature reduction concealment properties.
Zippers : IDEAL® Zipper: The TAC Zipper is the only abrasion resistant coil zipper available! Ideal
has committed themselves to developing technologically advanced zippers for the military/tactical market.
Buckles are ITW Fastex / Nexus
Camo and Colors : Coyote Brown, Black and ACU Camo
Dimensions :
Capacity : 90L / 5500 Cubic Inches
Weight Limit : Designed to carry 100lbs
Why is it called CHIEF?
That’s the name of the suspension system : COMPOSITE HYBRID INTERCHANGEABLE ERGONOMIC FRAMESHEET
Features
CHIEF FRAMESHEET - A 3-D molded framesheet fits the contours of the back, and flexes with the body while maintaining exceptional support.
PIVOT POINT HARDWARE - Comfort is achieved with pivoting anchor points for shoulder straps and belts that also help maximize body movement. Torso length and shoulder harness width are adjustable for a custom fit.
• BODY ARMOR COMPATIBLE HARNESS - The harness is customizable to fit over body armor. Extra shoulder strap padding is removable, and a lumbar pad is added for better load transfer.
First, the bite valve is ready to sip, without moving your hands from mission critical tasks. Second, gravity feed is maximized, for a better flow
rate. And finally, by avoiding the top of the pack, communications system wiring and antenna routing are cleaner.
Dual 100oz Side Hydration Pockets
Our Chief packs come standard with dual (right and left) hydration side pockets each capable of holding a 100 oz. bladder. These convenient pockets allow you to fill your water without removing them from your pack. High output ports are included.• ACCESS PANEL - Two vertical zippers open the front of the pack and allow for rapid load / unload of inner contents.
RADIO POCKET - Fits the 117 radio, and straps below carry 2 spare batteries close to the frame. Antenna/Communications ports are accessible through the lid.
Suspension system is adjustable and can be altered to fit Short, Average and Long torso lengths.
B-TOGS Strap Wraps are a convenient way to adjust and fix the extra length of webbing on a pack’s adjustable straps. B-TOGS are silent and do not stick to clothing like Velcro strap wraps. They are removable and field replaceable. The bungee allows you to make length adjustments without undoing the tog.
CRISSCROSS STRAP CLOSURE -Under the lid, but on top of the spindrift collar, straps cross from front to back, and from side to side, securing the load, and providing for extra lashing options. The side to side strap can neatly secure the side lift handles under the lid for extra snag-proof security. The side to side strap

I have been using a 110ltr Bergans Alpinist 3095 QSS since early 2005. I have carried it all over the world, in all types of climates and environments, from the Arctic to the Brazilian jungles. It truly is an amazing backpack. Usually, the only people that knock them have never owned one. When moving between countries I carried an 18ltr Bergans Nordkapp Jnr which clips to the shoulder straps and waste band and sits comfortably on your chest. This Granite Gear pack is the closest a backpack has come to mine. Thank you for this great review

It is comfortable, has amazing access & an outrageous amount of molle webbing. As stated in the review it can be compressed to a smaller form factor because of the compression straps, massive room when fully adjusted.

Good pack. I have the old ILBE Recon pack that is 90L. This one you're showcasing looks great for that ability to size it as exactly needed but I do maximize my 90L exactly for it's purpose but I could see the benefit of this one for scaling. It reminds me of the Savotta / Varuseteleka recon pack that is totally scalability.

The shoulder padding is velcro backed and removable to accommodate body armor. And an extra lumbar pad is also added for better load transfer. Another cool feature of this pack! But maybe your pack didn't come with the extra lumbar pad? Not really a big deal anyways unless your wearing body armor. Awesome pack man! I hope it serves you well. Stay safe! Hike on!

On the other hand I couldn't find anything for under $300 with the shipping thats being charged. Oh well, its an investment in gear that I'm hoping will last for a long time.

Bought this off your recommendation a few months ago-- think I paid 250 bucks for it. I use it as my principle search pack these days, and it's everything you said it would be. It's well-built, easy to refit, and indestructible. If you buy one, make sure to carry a Flathead screwdriver or the equivalent as the screws that hold the shoulder straps in like to slowly back out. Thanks for everything you do!

My go to for the last 6+ years.... Its got a lot of miles on it and flights to Alaska and the dirty pack only looks better with times. The only downside is sometimes all the extra things get caught up on belts and stuff at the airport so before letting them take the pack, I will tighten up all the odds and ends on it and make sure there isn't anything sticking out, pretty standard for bags just a lot more snag points for traveling then a standard pack.

Hi! I've been watching your channel for a couple years now and love your work. I really feel the 'agenda free' mission! I'm an army veteran that's into emergency preparedness & this video just sealed the deal. If we are talking about pure survival/INCH bags, this is big enough to hold all that one would need; it's def big enough to hold all the gear the players on the survival show 'ALONE' would need at least (and more than I would need even while I was in the army). This size of course scales down to get home/bug out bags. The modularity and ability to cinch so much down is also a huge boon. But you know what really sold me? The coyote brown color (in conjunction with everything else). Brown, from what I can observe, is the best base/flat color for terms of concealment while allowing for one to be gray man; normies wear brown all the time. I bought a UCP MOLLE II rucksack and dyed it with Apple Green RIT die. It looks great & is functional but it also draws unwanted attention when training with it and the green stands out in winter and fall settings. I don't want to be known as 'that army guy' if an emergency pops off. The coyote brown though? Very gray man and from what we can tell from all the brown furred animals in nature - a great base color to offer concealment for all seasons. Thanks for the agenda free content you provide dude. Strength & honor.

My uncle and i were psyched about this pack when it first became available. He ordered one in the AOR 2 camo. Which is essentially a green and black digital camo. AOR 1 and AOR 2 camo from what i understand were developed for special operations in the Navy that do island patrols and patrols is a wide range of other terrains. The Chief pack is made with a bunch of different (nylon) thickness materials. Placed in specific areas of the pack where durability is needed most and it also helps save on weight in other areas. My uncle has a long torso so he loved the overall fit of this pack i did not. This is a giant pack!! Around 5,500 cubic inches or 90 liters. So those of you who carry alot of bigger gear will have no problem with this pack. There is also like 6 grab handles on this pack i've never seen that many before. Alot of high quality clips and buckles too! Granite gear also made a jungle version of this pack when first offered to the military but they are rare as hens teeth!! Lol..If you like these kinda packs also check out TYR and their Huron packs. Very similar quality and designs. The only things i didn't like about this pack are the number of straps and the grab handles tend to rest against your neck while wearing it which was annoying. The size is the only other thing i didnt like. I wish they made one of the same design in a 45 liter or 3,000 cubic inches. But this pack definitely does what it was deigned for. Its large, lightweight and holds a ton with some good organization. Also comes in coyote brown and in multicam if you can find it. Granite gear is an awesome company!!
