Amazing how long ZDDP has been in use and still providing protection it does. Additive chemistry is so interesting
@LubricationExplained2 жыл бұрын
Yeah it's pretty remarkable that we still haven't found anything to fully replace it.

What's the basic difference between Engine Oil & Hydraulic Oil ZDDP?

Thank you very much!
@LubricationExplained2 жыл бұрын
Nice to see you here my friend! Fundamentally it's the same molecule - although hydraulic packs tend to run at much lower temperatures than engines so it would make sense that volatility and thermal stability aren't such big concerns.

I’ve been looking for details on FCA MS-13340. Where can one find details on this spec?

Very informative thanks, a question please, does ZDDP protects cylinder walls and main bearings as much as it protects the camshafts?? Because many articles talking about zddp mainly focus on camshafts and lifters,
@LubricationExplained2 жыл бұрын
Yes, mainly because they're the most highly loaded components, and therefore where ZDDP will have the greatest impact. But it will protect cylinder walls and main bearings too - in these instances there should be sufficient oil film thickness such that the base oil is taking most of the load.

Very Nice! can you tell something about Titanium ? Here in Brasil we have Lubrax Feroces and Castrol Edge with this technology and cant find much about.
@LubricationExplained2 жыл бұрын
Good question - I'll have to look at the published data a little. From memory I took a look at this a while ago and Castrol hasn't published much data in the public domain. I've previously spoke with formulators that do tear-apart of the Castrol additive pack and they felt the quantities of Titanium were too small to make an appreciable performance difference, but I'm unable to test that claim.

@@LubricationExplained Kendall also has a line of engine oils marketed with a “Liquid Titanium” additive package. Not sure what that means.

Greetings , wonderfull efforts , can you please talk also about NOACK volatility test ASTM D 5800, and the actual effect on performance considering different base oil groups , many thanks

Can you recommend me a quality ZDDP to add to my engine oil. I have a 6.4 Hemi wich is known to develop lifter tick, Cam wear / infamous Hemi tick over time. I use the recommended Dodge oil Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0W40. I've been looking at Additives such as Archoil, Liquid Moly Ceratec, Bestline, Rev X ZDDP etc... Some Mechanics say it's good to put an additive,bothers say it's not so good because the ZDDP is sythazized differently from the one the oil has and can cause an adverse affect. Can you recommend me the best one I can use ? Or combination of ? I have a friend that puts both Liquid Moly Ceratec, and Rev X ZDDP at the same time. What ever it takes to take care of my engine. Thx in advance Eric.

Hi! Thanks for the question - so aftermarket additive are not my specialty. However, I am interviewing an additive specialist for the podcast in a few weeks, hopefully we can get you an answer!

Thanks , it's useful indeed , however, considering that volatility will be reduced for group 2 onward, what about the viscosity effect of the base oil itself , ie n500 comparing to n150 , in the middle east specificly and focusing on 10w40 and 15w40 diesel engine oil , taking in consideration unregulated maximum loads and high sulfur contaminated fuel , there are significant issues with losing volume of oil and the need for top up
