I think his intellect out shines his technique which makes him an amazing artist. The tension between idea, intent and execution of a piece is what keeps an artist relevant and interesting.

I think of the drawings of Seurat when it comes to the light of the paintings.

This is a very interesting video but almost unwatchable because of the to loud and distracting music. It's a shame.

A lot of 'meaning:' here it is: 'focus', 'corporate anonymity,' 'nobility embracing mercantilism,' blah, blah. But if you set the ever-floating verbiage aside, it's just a lot of timorous light and shadow play, employing a recast of prosaic photos no one would look at twice. It's painting for people who hate painting anyway.

It's so funny that there is many works now dealing with the figure and portraiture but so many art schools have been preaching the death of painting that the students are not really taught how to paint. So you have people trying to 'represent' something but it is usually very badly executed. Dorremans is one who does what Tuymans does but he does it better because he can actually paint. With Tuymans, I see stuff like this in first year painting class at the local JC.

Luc is a genius at stating the obvious...does he not know people are out there who get it on first take? LOL

Why are paintings of photographs always so soulless

65ADORNO- FIRST they must learn how to DRAW. To train the eye. So much shit maskerading as Art for far too long. All the great Artists first learned how to draw , from Picasso to Van Gogh.

Odd how if you put illustrational crap like this in a fancy rich bastard gallery it suddenly becomes "Art."
