This feeling of courage and purpose came from him. The strength to surrender his connection to the human world to do what's right came from him. Every crazy change in Luca's life he had "Learned it from you! Let's get to the water!" Where they would leave everything behind. Maybe even Mom and Dad. Giulia would be sad but okay. She had already told him its okay to leave. Mom and Dad... who knows. But he couldn't go back. They'd never accept what he had done. They were going to send him to the Deep over a couple days in the tower. No. The future was only Alberto. "LUCA!" Hands covered his eyes and dragged him to the right. What? He had been so focused on the pier. Danger! That crazy bastard was chasing them with a harpoon! Gotta save Alberto. Gotta get to the water. "So long evil empire of injustice!" CRASH! Luca saw Giulia hit the cobblestones hard. She was hurt bad. She saved them. Alberto even called to her. They had to make sure she was okay. SKREEEEE She was okay. But everyone was looking at them. They had no escape. ... Ercole had them. These horrible monsters couldn't escape. How can Spewlia even defend them! As if she knew them! Not monsters? Look at them! Freaks with sharp teeth, fins, and tails! Then "Who are they? HUH?!" Massimo! Giulia's own dad was a sea monster hunter and he was coming to back Ercole up. All this would be settled. That prize would be his. "They are Luca and Alberto. And they are the Winners!" IMPOSIBLE! ... This guy was always berating, smacking, ordering them around. They had been beaten fair and square even after they had cheated at every stage of the race. They were not useless and pathetic. They were champions. "Guido." "Ciccio." It was time the two went and made some real friends, and some apologies. ... He was loosing his best friend again. But it was okay. Alberto had returned the Vespa, even though it was the best one in the entire world. He had spoken long and heated with Luca's parents. His grandma just stood by, not getting involved. This was something Alberto had to do on his own. They debated, they argued, they even yelled a little. It wasn't easy. But in the end they agreed that Luca could follow his dream. He wouldn't be alone. He had Giulia. She would fight anyone for him. And he had Massimo. He had a home. Next summer would come. Luca would come home. Alberto had a future.
