"Customize", 2000.
LUCA (LU⊃A) formed in 1994. In early 1996, LUCA lost its original drummer, Makoto (真琴). He was soon replaced by Ren, and the lineup remained stable. In October of 1996, LUCA (then going by the name of LU+CA) released its first demo, which was self-titled. The demo was mildly successful, and LU+CA went on to release two more demos in 1997: "Luminous Case" and "Lugubrious Case". In late 1997, LU+CA changed its name to LUCA, and in March of 1998, the group released its first mini-album, "Creation". The album was an underground hit, and LUCA then changed their name to LU⊃A in July, and released their first single, "Glare", that July. The single was also an indies smash, and LU⊃A then released their second mini-album, "Eternal Blue", in December of 1998. By the start of 1999, LU⊃A managed to skyrocket to the top of the visual indies scene, and in early 1999, the group went major and signed to Polydor. In March of 1999, the group released its second single, "Play to Risk", which was notable for being their first release to enter the Oricon charts, although it only reached number 84, and stayed in the charts for only one week. In June of 1999, LU⊃A released their third single, "Breeze", which reached 61 on the Oricon charts, and also only stayed in the charts for one week. Immediately after the single's release, LU⊃A left Polydor and signed to Universal Music. In July of 1999, the group released its fourth single, "Edge", which actually performed moderately well, as it reached number 39 on the charts, and stayed in the charts for two weeks. "Edge" would become the highest-ranking release by LU⊃A. In October of 1999, LU⊃A released their fifth single, "Because". While it only reached number 50, it still stayed in the charts for two weeks. By the time the new millennium arrived, LU⊃A transformed into being arguably the most recognized group to surface out of the visual underground at this point. In February of 2000, the group released their sixth single, "Prayer", which performed on the charts exactly how "Because" did. Just one month later, LU⊃A released their first and only full length album, "Customize", which reached number 69 on the charts, and only stayed in the charts for one week. In October and November of 2000, LU⊃A simultaneously released their seventh and eighth singles: "Suicide EP Ai wo Shiru ni wa Haya Sugita no ka (愛を知るには早すぎたのか)" and "Reborn EP Kaigansen no Kiseki (海岸線の奇跡)". "Suicide EP" didn't break the charts, although "Reborn EP" did, although it only reached number 88, and stayed in the charts for only one week. In January of 2001, LU⊃A released its ninth and final single, "Hageshii Ame (激しい雨)", which failed to enter the Oricon charts. Ultimately, LU⊃A decided to disband later in 2001. One of the guitarists of LU⊃A, Shuji, went on to join one more indies band, Quiet Life. While a member of Quiet Life, Shuji used his full name of Shuji Kawasugi (川杉周二). Eventually, Quiet Life disbanded, and Shuji ended up retiring from the visual scene. Bassist Toshi retired from the visual scene and went on to join the indies group 2t, which ended up disbanding as well in the summer of 2004. He then reunited with the other guitarist of LU⊃A, Jun, to form Croon. Unfortunately, Croon ended up splitting as well shortly after its formation, and both Toshi and Jun also wound up retiring from the underground music scene in general. The drummer of LU⊃A, Ren, went on to join the indies group Little Dove, which also split in 2004. He then retired from the visual scene, and joined his first non-visual group, Rosso, which he eventually left in 2005. He then joined the indies group Jahra, which he was also active in until it split as well in 2010. After Jahra split, Ren then retired from the underground music scene as well. The frontman of LU⊃A, Kazuki, joined the cult group Ground Zero, which eventually split in 2004, and he then took a break from the scene for a few years. In 2008, Kazuki returned to front Di-Lumina, which also split after not even a year of activity. Since then, Kazuki has been semi-active as a solo artist under his full name of Kazuki Daigoro (歌月大五郎).
