I shit you not it got so tedious, I got Stockholm Syndrome and was disappointed that one didn't show up for the "altering raft bed to change gravity" Luigi work. Alternatively I accidentally did a sequence break and skipped it.

***** Compared to most games, the tutorials are very constant here and overly long and tedious. For instance, switching between Bowser and Mario. If I said you can switch to Bowser with X and Y and Mario with A and B most people would get it right there. Instead they forced the player to go through a bunch of reiterating texts and even practice pressing buttons. From a game design perspective that's not good to have because a lot of players can get too bored at the start of the game and lose interest before getting to the juicy parts. It also gives off that vibe of hand holding and treating the player like a toddler.

It's a pretty big problem with the Mario and Luigi series in general. The one thing I don't like about replaying SuperStar Saga is having to go through all the tutorials again.

"We gotta pay!? If we lose you die too!" "I am confident in your success." That line from FFX basically sums up the "Why do shopkeepers charge heroes for equipment" issue. Personally, I think a better system, at least for a self-aware fantasy world, would be to have heroes receive equipment at a much lower rate before starting an adventure, then pay the rest afterwards. After all, the loot/treasure they get from the adventure will surely cover the cost.

You can't just give it away because then you lose 100% of the profit, but if you charge, say, 35% upfront, you ensure a little bit of a cushion. Also, considering this theoretical fantasy world is so self-aware, there's probably some "Heroes' Guild" that finances the equipment dealers anyway.

You get the item, you pay a bit of it off every however long, and if you don't have the money to make one of the payments, they come and repossess it. Maybe you can choose to fight the repo guys and you get a bounty as a thief. More games need moral paths, after all. But you can also get an option to buy the item at full price if you can afford it.

That iron ball had me in stitches! I remember the timing being A LOT less strict on that... You also need to hold off on the punch and hammer for just a split second. A good way to get the punch down is to watch Bowser's head and elbow, and press it right when its lowest.( you may need to fail it once in order to see the lowest point)

I love, love, LOOOVE the way Bowser controls in this game. Every action has so much feedback, it feels so satisfying just landing your basic attacks. Plus it's Bowser! This is my favorite game in the M&L series, and it's a crying shame we probably won't get to play as Bowser again in future installments. There's a "big" surprise waiting for you in Bowser's "power region", you're going to love it more than anything ever, and I cannot wait until we get to see it with you. Let's hope it's not too long of a wait!

You asked about Horn? Well, it's basically just Bowser's substitute for Mario and Luigi's Stache. So if you increase that, you'll have a higher chance to get lucky hits! And it'll give you discounts at stores you go to. I think they had that in Superstar Saga, though I'm a little unsure, the discount part of that I mean.

Since you can feasibly dodge every attack in the game, skilled players can focus on POW without worrying about damage. This means you should prioritize DEF and HP.

Yes you will get more equip slots and clearly mario/luigi use different heal/equips than bowser. You WILL have to use the mic for certain things bowser will do so you will have to check that its working.

Muh! Muh muh muh! And here we are, my three favourite characters in the game: Bowser, Midbus, and Fawful (in that order)! I just love the chemistry between Bowser and Midbus, like Bowser getting mad just from Midbus talking is hilarious. And the interactions between Bowser and Fawful later in the game is also comedy gold. Tip time! 1) So, as you level up (like every 6-10 levels), you also "Rank Up" (you can see that your current ranks are Mushroom, Mushroom, Bronze Crown). Ranking up lets you, from what I remember, choose an extra permanent stat, like for example, having more equipment equipped at one time. 2) *PRACTICE WITH BOWSER!* Bowser fights are hard at the beginning because it's a completely new mechanic, but practicing Bowser's punches and the timing and such will help you _so much_ later! Especially practice the punch. I've had experiences where getting Excellent! punches saved my life by killing the enemy before it could kill me. 3) Horn is to Bowser as Stache is to the Bros. Basically, the higher it is, the bigger the chance to get Lucky!'s and the bigger the discount at stores.

For the record, yes, you will get extra equipment slots once you reach a certain level. Of course, you'll need to choose between that and other various upgrades, so take the time to think about how you want to build your team. You'll get one of these upgrades roughly five times throughout the entire game, so don't stress out about it too much.

There are different builds for each character that people usually use, bowser is usually a heavy hitter but slow I would invest into attack and defense for the most part, Mario is a natural glass cannon while weegee is more bulky and has more HP and defense than his bro

just a small note - that tiny thing you punched into a coin is an enemy. some enemies (such as that one) are so small that bowser just pops em right on the overworld, but the bros would still do a full battle with it.

General tips from a Mario & Luigi veteran: Don't worry too much about building the bros or Bowser a certain way. Mario has slight proficiencies in SP, (You remember it as Bros Points, or BP in SuperStar Saga) POW and Speed, Luigi has better HP, DEF, and Stache, and Bowser is gonna grow up to have tons of everything, save for Speed. And while you can build these guys however you like, there's no wrong way to build them, especially in Bowser's case. That being said, the bonus stats given during a Level-up are determined by BASE stats, so equipment won't affect them at all. Feel free to use whatever you like. Horn is Bowser's Stache stat, essentially. Like Stache, it raises you *Lucky!* chance (crits) and also helps when buying in the shops. The game will explain that later, but know that it functions the same for the bros. Treat Bowser's punch offensively like you would with the Bros' hammers. That timing is almost identical. Bowser's punch has some weird timing on defense in battle and in on the overworld, though; attack earlier than you think, I find. You're right, you'll get your fire back, eventually. When you do, go back to the start of the next area; there's a Chakroad there. It won't really be convenient to tell you later on. Remember that tiny little purple guy you ran into on in the cave/plains? Those tiny enemies, Bowser can just run over to get free money. You'll see an enemy of this type in most areas; they're always much smaller by comparison. Finally, Bowser has his own status effects Mario and Luigi can't get. He can fall on his back - similar to the bros falling on their butts - icy attacks can get Bowser sick, which acts much like a more devastating poison, and he can get Rage, which increases POW by a ton, but decreases DEF equally. He gets Rage if you keep missing too many dodges, although you can heal it. Sorry this is so long, but this is the most important stuff for the time being. BIS is one of my favorite games, so I hope you enjoy it!

Here's some more tips: Ranking up increases the max equip slots available as well as let's you get better items. Bowser can use his shell as a second defense move later on. There will be battles where Bowser and the Bros are both used, thanks to a special new move you might have already seen.
