In my less than humble opinion, what Lucas doesn't know... you could stick in your eye and not even blink. He truly is extraordinary. I just 'discovered' him about two days ago. And he has my highest Holy Cow.

I came here after listening to his recording, Scarlatti: 52 Sonatas. I did not know his work at all but had been enjoying Horowitz’s interpretations and wanted to hear more Scarlatti. Straight away I was drawn into listening closely to Debargue (I’m supposed to be working). Beautiful style and steady, smooth-touch command of the sonatas. Always great to make a new discovery.

Come to think of it - Scarlatti do not have to be played ratatatat way. In good hands like Debargue's mercurial polystructural nature of Scarlatt's oeuvre comes to the fore. It sounds modern, fresh, unpredictable and piercing. Impressive insights from still young man but fast maturing performer with independent approach and means to express it. Moving interpretation. Bravo.

My Heart Jumped when I heard the AM sonata . Only Maria Pires seems to know or play this work in public ! I was astonished that after 4 decades of listening I had never heard it till she was filmed playing it ! Debargue is so intelligent , so musical . He communicates like noone else - he has that strength of communicating like very few . Midori had it and LangLang has it with everything else . When you experience it you never forget the instrumentalist ! I hope to see him in concert . Please Monsieur Debargue do a recital in Miami NO orchestral concerti ! Ive seen a lot of concerts from LeGrange. Looks like a barn.Richter ,Sokolov everyone comes here !

Scarlatti has k numbers before his works like Mozart. I wonder if the same person annotated their works.
@chrisladdoux4 жыл бұрын
Scarlatti's sonatas were first sorted you by one Longo (hence you read L.followed by numbers) but this work was soon outdated when harpsichord player and musicologist Ralph Kirkpatrick sorted out the 555 sonatas on historical basis, hence we now have L. followed by numbers. The k for Mozart' work stands for Keuchel. Voilà dear Shri Buyanjargal.
@florianobonfanti78012 жыл бұрын
K, sometimes Kk, is for Kirkpatrick numbers and indicates the numbering system made by Ralph Kirkpatrick in the '50. Nonthing to do with Mozart.

It was apparent back then that here was an exceptional talent, but he was still very young and the performance is marred by excessive fireworks, and the links between the sections in K208 are frankly cheesy. In the past four years he has grown up a lot and his performances are as brilliant as ever but considerably more mature. I have his 4-CD set of 52 Scarlatti sonatas and it's wonderful. (This is irrelevant to the music, but the Harry Potter look of 2019 suited him much better than his current hyacinth hairstyle and dinky beardette. But that's his choice and maybe it's mean to criticise.)

I suggest you read Paul Badura-Skoda's Interpreting Bach at the keyboard, before you publish your opinion. If you just listen to the impeccable clarity of Debargue's trills and his restrain in the use of the pedal, you would notice that there is nothing "romantic" in his interpretation.
