Thanks for making this, I got stranded today when my starter that was perfect one minute all of a sudden started spinning really slow with a dead short to the case making it red hot and smoke from inside. Thanks to this video I'm going to take it apart and inspect that joint and the wrapping on the coils too.

Thanks for the help, especially the zip ties. One thing though, I trapped a small screwdriver between the motor housing and the zip tie. This allowed me to pull the brushes fully in and was easier to snip the tie afterwards.

love the zip tie trick on the brushes. Thank for sharing.

I’ve never seen this done before. Something else to add to the list if I ever have to take mine out. Thanks 👍

I am planning to do this, so very helpful. Would be good to know if there is anything special to soldering new brushes in.

Is there a way to reverse the direction of this motor? I am not using it in an automotive starter application and I need it to run in the CCW direction. Or is there a Part Number that runs in the CCW direction?
@diabolicalmachine4 ай бұрын
Yes you can. In a series wound motor like this you need to reverse the polarity of the brushes relative to the field windings

I'm sure on the end where the split pin is on my starter motor it's welded 😑

Please use the correct tool (Sykes-Pickavant Pt No: JWP 376) for compressing the Bendix spring. That spring when compressed has a lot of latent power. If one or both of your mini vices slip that spring can fly and may cause injury.
