You cannot play the blues unless you’ve had your balls nailed to the railroad track by the KKK.
@aldebaran433210 ай бұрын
As someone who studied piano at the conservatory this hit me on a deep level. Classical music turned into something that can feel like a cage. It's like everybody forgot that music heroes like Bach were also great improvisers and learned music theory to then use it to create. And we get raised as mere executors! But rock, blues and jazz can still provide us the freedom to express the music we have inside
@manuelcardoso759510 ай бұрын
True. Yeah musicians of the baroque all improvised. There's I think a bach trumpet concert where the 2nd movement is just 2 notes, and you were supposed to imrpovise there. Nowadays they just play the two notes. I can relate to this because I study at a conservatory, currently in grade 6 as a classical guitarist. Fortunately, they have an improvisation class there with an awesome jazz professor. I mean I love classical music too, and my classical guitar professor is also awesome but... hell this video is good
@googlekopfkind10 ай бұрын
Agree, but one can also play bach and improvise in classical style, or compose or improvise in bassically every style you want. I studied composition at conservatory and it was such a joke
@rproctor8310 ай бұрын
What do you mean exactly? They don't teach you theory? I would assume the school would base the performance on the technical execution rather than how good it sounded.
@aldebaran433210 ай бұрын
Yes, they teach us theory, but they don't teach us how to apply it practically to make music, and don't encourage us to do so, we approach every piece in an unpersonal way, execution must be precise because we are not great musicians yet, so we don't have the authority to interpret things. The problem is more generic and is in the way Classic music is seen today, like It Just belongs to the past, frozen on the paper. Why can't we just jam together and groove like during the baroque or improvvise a romantic waltz to make friends dance at parties? xD
@manuelcardoso759510 ай бұрын

The same thing happened to me. I studied classical guitar for 7 year non completing the conservatory but when I discover music my life changed. It's more powerful for expressing cause blues is what you feel inside either positive either negative. It could sound strange but in many case blues helped me in some depression or failure moment. I take my guitar e play blues.
@pinballrobbie7 ай бұрын
I heard somewhere, that people like the blues because it usually ends in a Major Chord which is uplifting and gives you hope.

The funny thing is, is that the blues are not depressing. I read somewhere that the Blues can cheer you up because the chord changes usually end on a Major uplifting chord.
