Having a relentless forward pressure overwhelms your opponents and causes them to make critical grappling mistakes in the heat of the moment, this in turn makes it easier to take down your opponents. We've seen this with Merab shooting fifty takedowns on Yan. He isn't getting most of them but its stifling Yan's offence. Or with Khabib pressuring Gaethje so bad he was gassed by the end of the first. Forward pressure is a part of Khabib's grappling style that he is best at. The only stupid comment is stating Khabib and Islam have the same grappling level.

Khabib would just run at Volk and not give him any space unlike Islam did. We saw how much less effective Volk was in the rematch when he was getting walked down by Islam. If Khabib is walking down Gaethje with zero fear why wouldn't he do the same against Volk? Its a lot harder to defend takedowns with a grappler as relentless as Khabib. We've also seen Islam struggle to take Charles down and have competitive grappling with much lower level grapplers like Chris wade... Khabibs grappling is flat out better.

Khabib will defeat Volk, certainly. Khabib's and Islam's wrestling is way different: Khabib is far more rentless and spams it to the point where you have to worry at every encounter whilst Islam doesn't really use it that much, and certainly doesn't spam it. Even looking at Ortega vs Volk, he was in so much danger on the ground and mix in ground and pound, Volk would be toast. And I don't think Khabib would get lit that much up in the striking department, since he *already* has fought some of the best strikers in LW history (McGregor, DP, Justin) where he was very competitive-he improved his striking significantly throughout his career. So I just don't see Volk doing so much better in the striking area that Khabib would get neutralized, especially with the looming threat of the take down like no other fighter ever. Moreover, I think you overrate how good Volk's defence is on the ground, given he been in tricky situation before on the ground and he hasn't fought a person who spams ground and pound like Khabib. Khabib at least wins 3 rounds.

Serious counter argument to the Volk v Khabib take: You’re over inflating the accomplishment of volk on the ground in the first Islam fight. Yeah he survived very well, but that was easily the physically weakest we’ve ever seen Islam due to Perth’s weird rules. In the second fight, when Islam was his usual size, we saw Volk spend significant energy to fight off some very casual clinch work from Islam. The biggest moment for Volk in the entire first fight was dropping Islam, who already has a much worse chin than Khabib and also was not fully rehydrated. Furthermore, this only came at the very end, when Islam was gassed, when we’ve (to my knowledge) never seen Khabib get gassed

Nah Khabib beats Volk. Ever since Merab dominated Yan by setting a record for failed takedowns, I've realized that at a certain level these elite grapplers don't have to rely on successful takedowns to win. They just have to stifle their opponent's offense and they win in the eyes of the judges Khabib failed every takedown on Tibau... still won 30-27. Merab failed every takedown on Aldo... still won 30-27. Evloev just beat Allen even though he did nothing with his takedowns. Volk ain't winning a decision against this type of style. We saw that in the first Islam fight. Its not as simple as "well if Khabib can't get takedowns he loses". It doesn't work that way anymore. Khabib doesn't have to dominate Volk to get a win

Khabib doesn't have Merab's gas tank. Nobody does, and unlike Yan, Volk is a fast starter that has high output. Tibau is 10 levels below volk, aldo is another low output guy that is kind of stationary. Volk is nothing like those guys. His footwork, gas tank, volume and speed are what makes him special

My takes Shavkat (he has a massive advantage on the feet and we already saw Khamzat refuse to go to the ground with Burns due to Submission threat) Leaning towards Francis by way of wrestling defense + power advantage (pretty 50:50 here) Not familiar enough with either guy to say Khamzat (simply too big for Islam) Pereira (takes away strength advantage of ddp and has a huge counterstrike threat against a relatively open ddp; nightmare matchup tbh) Leaning Volk (but Connor has a very good chance at a knockout) Bo (honestly a better pure wrestler and boxer with a huge size advantage; but this depends on how good his chin turns out to be)
