This is my ideal peace and comfort. I lived in the woods for over 30 years, heated with wood and lived as rustic as possible. I did put in a well.....as time goes, during summer months there would be weekenders come which ruined the balance of nature. I loved when the snow came, roads closed, no power...I was fully prepared....but I must have my dog's...this is a beautiful stone cabin, and I am sure warmer than mine was. I loved cooking on my wood stove...and cast iron was a must have. Yes, I miss it. But I am still living a little different, just different climate. Bravo, love the share, and the connection to the earth and the environment.

This was very comforting to me. My husband and I lived in the mountains for many years. Snow was a constant companion in the winter. The difference was that we had horses. Riding in the mountains while it snowed was ethereal. The silence was so peaceful. We had a handmade wood stove. There is nothing like the cozy warmth from a wood stove. My husband also smoked a pipe. He would go out hunting and fishing. So many memories. Thank you for inviting me into yours.

When I was younger I experienced staying in a cottage of stone in the winter with a wood-burning stove. I have fond memories of those days. Cooking stews and soups over a wood-burning stove in a cast iron pot needs to be experienced to fully appreciate. The smells, the sound of the fire. It was very peaceful. I never had a problem sleeping. Then waking to a cold cabin and starting the fire to do it all over again. This was a nice peaceful video. Thank you from Los Angeles.

This is so beautiful. It snows a lot in the mountains of Virginia and we have very similar stone houses and quaint cabins here, so I feel right at home looking at this. Growing up we had a small lakeside cottage with a cast iron stove called "Glowing Embers", or something like that. Winter was the BEST of times in that little cabin. I cut and split all the wood with a bowsaw and ax, then hauled by the armload to the porch. Freezing when you came in and laid up the fire. Then the crack and crackle as it caught and began to throw a little warmth. Then as the stove began to radiate, you moved farther and farther away. The Very Best of times.

And while I absolutely do love the beauty of a mild green winter, I'm longing for a beautiful stone cabin with a beautiful companion and a thick, heavy blanket of snow. Thank you so much for sharing this piece of your world with us.

Reminds me of our beginning, when we first moved to the pyrenean mountains, 5 kilometers steep piste to the village, at 980 meters altitude.. No running water, no toilet, no electricity. We still live there now. Our daughter was born in February, 1,20 of snow. The snowplow brought the midwife... it's been forty years living there now. For me, all the things this man was our day to day routine for many years. Eventually we got more comfort, ( we installed water from a source with a long hose which we buried, so it wouldn't freeze in winter and got a toilet and a shower, supreme luxury!! got electricity, the road was eventually fixed...)but we still heat with wood stove..

I used to heat with a wood stove just like that one. There's another decorative chrome piece that goes over the top of the stove if you aren't using it to cook on. When I got it, it was pretty rusty with surface rust, but I wire brushed it and put some stove black on it and it cleaned up right nice. I just ran the stove pipe straight up to my ceiling as there was a sort of terra cotta-like chimney that went from there up through the roof that had once been for a coal stove. Only other heat in the house was a double fireplace. The stove did well to keep one room toasty and the double fireplace would heat about half of each room, lol. That house was a wood house built before 1850 with not a lick of insulation between the clapboard outer walls and the beadboard inner walls that had replaced the original plank inner walls at some point. It did have electric but it wasn't anything to brag about...one bare bulb in each room and one wall outlet in each room. The old fuse box had a range block for cartridge fuses on 240v that had never been used. I wired it up and added a 240v outlet to one room and put a 4 stack heater in it and when I turned it on every light in the house went out, lol. Turned out the electric company had never upgraded the transformer on the pole to a modern one and it blew the breaker out the top of the transformer. They asked why I waited till the next day to call and I said "By the time I got a fire in the stove and got supper cooked I was ready for bed". That and the house had never been wired for phone service, LOL! I had a bunch of old kerosene lamps & lanterns so had plenty of light.

Bought a little Christmas tree and some cheap ornaments and invited some of our grandchildren over to stay, knowing we were gonna get snowed in. It worked out perfectly and we were snowed in for 5 days! It was a quaint small town and their roads were the last to be plowed. One of my best memories. We had a blast playing games and baking.
